Hello,
well I really shouldnt be thinking about this right now, since im only a sophmore in highschool, but my mom got me thinking about what I really want to do with my career and stuff...

well I know that my career has to have something to do with Music/art/computers(technology, something like that) Im just not sure whats my best route.

Ive heard berklee is a great place for bass, but I might be interested in being in the studio and recording and stuff like that.

What bass related job could I make the most money from?

My plan in the back of my mind was always to try my hardest studying something bass or art related in college and if it doesnt work out job wise, I could always open like a music shop or something with my friend in my town and teach bass as well...

So, anyone going to college specifically for something music or bass related? And does anyone know a good college that has bass and art courses? Does anyone else share my interests and have an opinion?

Tough one... hmmm, I would not attend a music college unless I was pretty damned sure I wanted to pursue music for a career. It would be a waste to attend Berklee just to end up working in a GC.

That being said.... you still have a few years to figure out what you want to do. Obviously high-tech is not a bad way to go and the options are huge. The pay can also be very good. What would be the most rewarding to you?

Keep playing and then decide if music is what you would like to pursue. Remember you can always have a good paying job and play music as a hobby. Do what you think YOU would love. Let your gut instinct decide your path.

You should be thinking about it now! In music, you want to get to know the people at the college you want to attend... They can help you get in and get you $$$$$$$$ to attend if they know you have potential and things like that...

As for college... You can major in underwater basket weaving... No one cares what your under grad degree is... as long as you have a degree...

I went to Berklee... I started out as a Jazz bass major, but then saw all the technology that place has to offer and maajored in music production and engineering and music synthesis...

So do you use that degree now? What are you doing? I've always wondered what kind of jobs are out there for those majors.

An Undergrad Degree doesnt really matter... Where ever you go to school you go... Its a college edumakation reguardless of what it is in... I used my music to get college paid for... I have many friends who went to berklee because they bought a guitar, had their parents pay for it, and then go on to Law School or Business school for their masters... Undergrad doesnt matter as much...

My story is...

I attended berklee from 1998-2002 when I graduated... I finished the 4 years while actually attending 2.5 years... I had moved to the mid west to do some work on a side project with a guitar player from Slipknot and write / play bass and record some songs for Vanilla Ice's album Bi-Polar... During college I was also steadly gigging playing Jazz as well as alot of studio sessions around boston and gigs and sessions in NY...

After college I created a electronic drum n bass label and put out 4 records on it... DJed in alot of different clubs... Put some tracks together for a DJ Instructional Record / Book set... Produced some trax for DJ RAP and some music for Video Games...

I got into a bit of a car accident in 03... I want able to play bass or work in my studio... got kind of out of doing music for a bit and got into a jobby job thats payin the bills... so now im doin music more on the side, but still get gigs / studio work here and there...
