This is my situation> I brought a washburn acoustic bass from a talkbasser (great bass for a great price!) and after a while of having it i decided to make it into a fretless.

I took it to a Professional and did a wonderfull job! but anfeter another while i realize that i take advantage of the fretless only on higher frets, but its a little uncormfortable to get used on the lower frets.

I thought i could Re-fret it but only on the 1st 7 frets. I seen a couple of videos and clips in the past of basses which were fretted and fretless.... so do you think its possible???

Also.... the Pro fessional who did the job is the ONLY on who works decentrly in Uruguay, and hi is FULL of job for at least 2 or 3 weeks..... is it possible for myself to do the job? were can i find instructions to Re fret a bass?

It's possible to go fret/fretless...

but do yourself a favour, learn to play a fretless top-down.

Your fingers will soon get used to playing the wider positions near the nut and it will even improve your fretted technique.

and the tone...well...what's better than the sound of pure wood without the "clank clank clank" of frets"??

the problem of a partially fretted bass is that the action will have to be high over the fretless part to compensate for the frets. It is possible to do it yourself, but it is not easy. You will need to cut the slots, press/hammer in the frets, then dress them. It would be pretty hard for a beginner
