VIEW FULL LIVE VERSION : What's your setup?
AdlerAugen 01-03-2007, 02:35 AM My recording setup:
Alesis 8 channel USB mixer plugged into computer via USB, serves as my soundcard instead of my now unused soundblaster audigy.
my output is my bose 2.1 speakers or my JVC stereo, whatever I'm in the mood for, unless I go for the headphones.
Beyond that, it's just comp specs and my mic, guitars, and basses. Just figured it all out so my mixer works as output and input for my computer, so I can ebay that soundblaster audigy =)
oh, my mics are so cr*ppy they aren't worth giving specs, because they're 1/4" akai mics that came with a really old reel-to-reel machine my dad bought wayyy before I was born.
So what's your home studio like?
MattD 01-03-2007, 06:19 AM I run ProTools LE and Logic 6, either on my Imac or Acer laptop. Depending on what i'm recording i'll interface through an Mbox 2 or M-Audio projectmix. The monitors i use are powered Edirol desk top monitors, that give a great flat response for mixing. I have a small M-Audio key station MIDI controller. Mics, i own a couple of shure sm 57's and a Red 5 Audio RV-10. I'm a music tech student though, so whatever i need that i don't have i'll just borrow form uni.

AdlerAugen 01-03-2007, 05:00 PM Nice stuff, you must have been collecting for quite some time. My instruments include an Ibanez 4 string (SRX300, dark blue slightly translucent), holton trumpet, vito clarinet, alvarez and martin acoustic guitars, and an acoustic bass I don't remember the name offhand, yamaha electronic piano, ovation mandolin, sonny D ukulele, and two banjos. Most of that I don't actually use (mandolins and banjos)
By the way, is takamine a good brand, because we have a friend that bought a takamine classical guitar at a swap meet and knows nothing of the brand--$75 dollars for it.
Danimal00 01-03-2007, 05:06 PM By the way, is takamine a good brand, because we have a friend that bought a takamine classical guitar at a swap meet and knows nothing of the brand--$75 dollars for it.
Thanks, I really like my Takamine. I use it primarily plugged in at church when I am not on bass. It sounds great through the PA that way. It also sounds good acoustically for recording. Takamine has guitars in a very wide range of prices, from very inexpensive to very expensive. If it is in fair/good condition, I think that the $75 would be worth it for any of the models, even the lowest end models.

DougP 02-15-2007, 01:20 PM However, I'm looking to get myself a mac with logic pro 7 (Can anyone tell me if that comes with EXS24)
it sure does. :)
Woo nice thread.
Record to a custom built XP PC, running Nuendo v.3 with Motu 2408 + 24i/o converters giving 32 channels of analogue input.
Microphones are made to sound nice by using an AMEK BC-III desk, with 20 rupert neve designed mono channels. Also use FMR Audio RNP (2 ch.), Oram Octasonic (8 ch.) and Universal Audio LA610 (1 ch. + comp).
Compression can be applied using FMR Audio RNC's or RNLA's, DBX 166 or UA LA610.
Some lovely software plugins courtesy of the Universal Audio Studio Pak card.
And sounds are turned into electrical signals by:
2 x Audio Technica 4033
5 x Shure SM57
1 x Shure SM7
2 x Shure SM58
1 x Shure Beta 57
1 x Shure Beta 52

3 x AKG 451
1 x AKG D112
2 x Sennheiser MD421

1 x Reslo Ribbon
2 x Beyer M260 Ribbon
1 x Beyer M201
1 x Royer R121
1 x Electrovoice ND408a
1 x Langevin CR2001.
The sounds are monitored using a Hafler P3000 power amp, through Dynaudio BM5 monitors, and controlled by a PreSonus Central Station.
Plus lots of assorted crap like the Line6 Pod Pro, A&H Desk, Samson Servo 300 spare power amp, M Auddio Delta1010 interfaces (2 of) and stuff...

Of course I forgot to put some stuff in there 4 sm 57's, a Beta 58 and a golden mic from the seventies which I don't know the name of(all markings are rubbed off) and all of the above I record on a mac mini when not using the tape(which I use rearly).
Fathand 02-17-2007, 04:48 PM I couldn't wait until Monday. Got the Mbox 2 from the post office yesterday, just installed the whole package and fiddled around with it for a while. Even though I couldn't do much and don't really know nothing yet, I liked it. :D
And though I always hate to be wrong, my friend was right. Pro Tools seems a bit more intuitive in it's operation than Cubase (IMO).
The PSA-1 plugin was excellent, so I'm gonna sell my PODs ASAP. No need for outboard boxes, plugins all the way baby! The free Drum plugin was good enough for demoing stuff, now I just have to learn myself away from the tracker stuff I've been using until now. :p
The only negative aspect: I probably don't have enough self control to do any school stuff tomorrow, just play around with the Mbox. :rollno:
