There is a local black metal band that the bassist uses a Fender Jazz 5 String.

I play death/grind and I am in the market for a 4-String Jazz.

Eerie Von (ex Danzig) comes to mind and when Juan Alderete was John Alderete in Racer X, he ripped that Jazz up like nobody's business.

Not sure about the guy from fear factory, it's either a p or a j. It is a five string fender though.

Geezer Butler used them when recording a lot

His basses utilize the standard J pickup pattern. Maybe I'm the only one who notices such things. :hmm:

Oh, I know that, but I was talking actual Jazz bass/Jazz bass copies.

If you've seen the "Show your J-Bass" threads around here, you'd see where I'm coming from. :ninja:

Geddy Lee
Juan Alderete
Martin Mendez
Les Claypool
Tim Commerford

Um . . . that's all I can think of. Only Mendez and Commerford use J-basses exclusively. Geddy has his Ric, Wal, and Steinberger, Claypool has his crazy Carl Thompsons, and Alderete has any number of hacked up Fenders. What's funny is Alderete's main bass today is a Geddy Lee signature Jazz, based on Geddy Lee's main bass today.

Byron Stroud (Fear Factory/ Strapping Young Lad) plays a 5 string custom shop jazz.

Oh my GOD! I think I just fell in love . . . I've been hesitant about Jazz basses, despite them being awesome, simply because none really caught my attention look- and sound-wise . . . the Geddy came close. But man, is that thing SMOKING. I wonder if they'll make a non custom-shop version (i.e. one that I don't have to pay over $1200 for . . .). Thank you so much for that link!

HI

Ian Hill of Judas Priest always used a early '70s burst J with black blocks and binding any time I went to their concerts in my youth
