Sort of, only it's all bass-dorks surrounded by all kinds of nice gear. I've only been to two though. The main attraction for me is getting to try out all sorts of high end gear that you'd never find in a store.

Maybe Bryan R Tyler will be there with his Elricks!

Actually I'm working on it. Doesn't look good as of right now, but we'll see. I'll let everyone know.

So there's no meeting place yet? :D

I'm about 20-30 minutes from Westerly and could host it, but that's likely way too far for most central RI'ers.

AJ Brown
01-13-2007, 10:36 AM
I can also host it... I'm in Lincoln, have the space, a drum set, and drummer if needed.

Freddels

How late in the afternoon are you planning to have this? I can probably make something around 5:30 or so (if it'll still be going on at that time).

Personally, I can only go until about 7PM, but can start as early as 2PM.

Bryan R. Tyler
01-13-2007, 12:29 PM
I personally wouldn't be able to make it anywhere (as most know I can't drive because of my eyesight, and my wife's been out of commission from ankle surgery), but if anything falls through and a backup spot is needed, I can always host at my house and have no limit to the hours people can be there.

Hey Bryan, where exactly are you?

Bryan R. Tyler
01-13-2007, 01:19 PM
I'm at the edge of Norwich (06360) next to Ledyard, so about 5-10 minutes from either casino. 40 Sunnyside Ave. if that helps for a Mapquest or something.

AJ Brown
01-13-2007, 01:32 PM
Either my place or Bryan's place is ok with me... anyone have a preference? Bryan is just over an hour from Pawtucket/N.A. area.

AJ Brown
01-13-2007, 02:39 PM
Since a lot of us will be more towards the north, I am offering to host the RI Mini-GTG at my house. Please PM me if you are coming and I will PM you the directions and information.

I'm holding as an open house between 1PM and 6:30PM (maybe later). I'll have pizza, calzones, soda (for those under-21) and beer for the elder folks.

Bring your gear (esp. Chunk ... I want to try the Mouse out).

I have one rig, a PA system with a DI and one very small combo amp, so if someone could bring maybe one more combo amp, that would be great. If my drummer can make it we could jam or whatever.

I look forward to meeting you guys.

Cool!

I've got the following available...

Fender Custom Shop "Custom Classic" Jazz V
Pedulla Thunderbolt 4
Pedulla Buzz (fretless) 4
Sadowsky RV4

Carvin B1500 (1250w @ 4ohms!)
Epifani PS600
Epifani UL212

However, if I bring the UL212, I can only fit two basses in my car.

I'm not sure if this is cool or not (shameless plug), but I also have some cabs for sale. Aguilar GS210 and two GS112s. All are mint with the padded Aggie covers. Cash and carry! No shipping fees=low prices and a good deal. PM me if you're interested.

Cheers,
Kevin

That's a lot more room than most of the stages I've been on, so we should be good. It really doesn't have all that big of a foot print, but it is a full size rig 90's style. 1 18" 1 2X10" SWR's and I usually stick the rack (4 space) on top.

I'm definately going to bring my workhourse Fender J. IMO it out funks my Sadowsky any day of the week.

True. Unless of course someone was interested in A/Bing the two cabs? That question has only been asked about 1,000,000 time here on TB! Is your cab a 4 ohm or 8 ohm? Mine's a 4 ohm.

That Jazz sounded great. Don't think I got the chance to play it last time, but it was definitely funky.

I'll be bringing my Elrick singlecut 5, Elrick singlecut fretless 4, maybe my Elrick singlecut fretted 4, and my sized-down mini-rig- a Bergie 1x12 and a 4-space effects rack (only 10" deep) with a couple Boss VF-1s and a Looperlative looper for anyone who wants to try it. The whole thing's only a foot deep and 3.5 fet long. I normally run it in stereo with another Bergie and some floor switches to pan or switch between them, but there's no need for that at a GTG.

I'd also be happy to bring a pack of Guinesses or something else if that's cool.

I have the hum-canceling pups. The strings are Sadowsky Bright Nickels.

btw, I won't be bringing my Epi UL212 unless someone really wants to hear it. It takes up a lot of room in my car and would prevent me from bringing all of my basses. Let me know. I will still be bringing my Carvin B1500 and my Epi PS600.

Nice. I'm glad you'll be there Brian.

I sold my Ken Smith shortly after playing your Elricks at the last GTG. I has hoping to find a nice 34" scale Elrick to replace it, but Sadowsky gas got the best of me. Here we go again. I just love those Elricks. Super nice tone.

Bryan R. Tyler
01-18-2007, 12:54 PM
Well, I sold the red one to help pay for a plasma TV for my wife's christmas present, but if I do bring the singlecut fretted 4 I have now, it's also a 34" so you might like to try it. The neck on it is thicker than the standard Elrick neck by a bit, but it's the comfiest 4 I've tried.

I was actually surprised I didn't like the Smith more. It was a nice bass, but it didn't end up wow'ing me the way I thought a Smith might. I used to jones for a Smith six when I was younger.

Well, I have received word my manly presence is required to
pick up a sofa that my lovely wife spotted while out recently
doing a little antiqueing. I had hoped to do that yesterday, but
it started raining after work.

That is right, I have to take care of that Saturday. Hopefully
that will get taken care of in a timely fashion, but it does
increase the possibilty that the elusive Thor will fade after
the superhuman effort required to move a sofa. I'd rather
move an SVT anyday. Hey, I'd happily settle for a warm beer

Fred actually showed up at the end with his incredible Zon Sonus Spalted and a custom fretless.

I'll post the pics and vids tomorrow sometime before the Pats kick the Colts' ass.

We should definately do it again in the spring.

You guys suck!! You left early you wimps! Leaving at like 5:30. I can't believe it. I got there about 6:15 and the place is dark. I called Andy and he was nice enough to let me in (thanks Andy and Cathy).

Andy's F Bass is really nice. I had never played one before and even though the fb is huge, it's really comfortable to play. I also like the Modulus too. Really nice.

I wish I could have arrived earlier but two of my kids had birthdays this week and we had reservations for a party at a lazer tag place.

I know Zac probably laid down some grooves and everyone had a good time. Next time!!

Glad to meet all of you and put some faces to the screen names. Loved AJs Sadowsky and the Fbass was sweet too. One more string than I need but very sweet indeed. Joes Stammie is a work of art and Bryans Elricks are something else. Way too may basses and gear in one room. Thought I died and went to bass heaven. Wish I had tried them all.

There were a lot of talented players in the room which reminds me I need to get back the shed.
Me too, I was a little gun shy. :p

Same here, great meeting you too.

Glad you dig it. Just one more?? Haaa!

I did buy it direct from Rob. He has a pretty good turn around time. It was just a few month with the options I chose. If you buy a stock Mouse it takes less time. There are a few dealers out there but the Mouse is a bit hard to find in stock.

Sorry Fred. Wish we could have stayed longer. Maybe next time. Someone mentioned that you being an upright player would really have liked the Mouse. I know I would have loved to hear you put some upright technique to it.

You probably would have loved the Majors green Violin bass. Very acoustic sounding with some grit to it with the Dan Armstrong picups. The bass is a beauty!

For those of you who tried my Carvin B1500 head, there was obviously a problem with the output level. I finally had the opportunity to check it out today with my Epi UL212 and I'm happy to report that it still kicks mucho arse with the volume on "3." My guess is that there was some sort of weird cable mismatch or something? That was the first time I had used the 1/4" output, so maybe that had something to do with it. If anyone wants to really hear/feel the way it should sound, I'll be happy to bring it (along with the UL212, and speakon cables)to the next area GTG.

Shameless gigspam.

I am supposed to do the opening set with Ron Gizzarelli
and Steve Angelone (Rotten Angel) at the Ocean Mist
Feb 24th.

Ronnie's original band will do the 2 following sets, but as
they only have enough material for 2 sets, I am the go to
guy for the extra set as his bassist apparently can't handle
covers. And his regular drummer can only do 4/4. Angelone,
otoh, can do 3/4, 6/6, 11/4 and whatever else needed.

Should be an interesting evening in Matunuck. Last time
I appeared was last June.

Also, Rotten Ice, our new blues project, is shaping up
decently, and that looks like a good gig vehicle. That should
be well polished by the end of March, at which time I may
ask for some venue advice for that.

Just met Chunk-o-Funk and D Von over at GC Warwick.

Chunk brought the Mouse, that was a very unique bass, for
sure.

It was just a spur of the moment thing as D Von needed to
buy some gear, his shredder guitard was killing him. If I had
know I would have brought the Benavente along, but as
it was, I had access to the Lakland Skyline HB and a
sunburst Epi Jack Casady. So we spent an hour or so
swapping stories and basses.

Yeah, I know. I was only using my 2X10 as well. But a 4X10 that only weighs 56lbs is a God send compared to my last set up for gigging.

I also bought a proper case for my rack set up. That alone will probably shave close to ten pounds off of that.

The Stewart amp only weighs 18lbs and the pre is only a few. The wooden box I have everything in right now too heavy.
