VIEW FULL LIVE VERSION : Who Your Favorite Professional Bass Player?
haloonpc 01-13-2007, 10:02 PM Post them name of your favorite bass player and what band he or she is from.
If you read my "John Hancock" I'm sure you can figure out my favorite bass player.
tplyons 01-13-2007, 10:28 PM lol, It's just, like five people a day go into those forums.Whether or not that's the case, it doesn't make it a good reason to knowingly post in the wrong place, it still doesn't belong here.
That being said, Chris Chaney.
Kelly Lee 01-13-2007, 11:31 PM lol, I mod that section and it gets plenty of traffic. Besides, the subdivisions are how this place works, if you post things in the wrong places... mods will just either move them on you or close them if it happens too often.
Please post threads in their proper location... the rest of us would appreciate you following the rules like we do.

With that out of the way, Geezer Butler is the man. :)
KeithBMI 01-14-2007, 01:04 AM Geezer Butler.
bassfacekevin 01-14-2007, 01:42 AM I'd prob. have to go with colin marston of dysrhythmia or maybe tom jenkinson of squarepusher. Though they're always changing. I guess based on my moods, I have different favorite bassists.

Philbiker 01-23-2007, 07:17 AM Graham Maby. (http://www.grahammaby.com/)
It helps that I'm a big fan of two musical geniuses he often plays with: Joe Jackson and Marshall Crenshaw.
His musicality is perfect in all situations and all songs. He never plays flashy, but his lines are always appropriate and often musically challenging. His backing vocals are strong and sure. He's my single favorite player and I strive to play with his skills and taste. He's the reason I would buy a red Spector 5 string.
peaceofmind 01-23-2007, 08:24 AM I'd say Chris Squire. I don't think YES would be nearly as interesting with out those songs within songs bass lines. So tasteful.
MaidenFanatic66 01-23-2007, 12:53 PM My favourite Bassist is Steve Harris from Iron Maiden without a doubt, fantasic bassist.
MetalEye 01-23-2007, 04:07 PM My favourite bassist is Ryan Martinie from Mudvayne
hugs4lonelyfish 01-23-2007, 04:55 PM Either Flea, Wooten, or Mike Anthony formerly in Van Halen
iriegnome 01-23-2007, 08:03 PM I really like John Deacon from Queen. Very understated, but a great player.
4-string Steve 01-23-2007, 08:09 PM Justin Chancellor, Tim Cummerford, Dirk Lance, John Entwistle, and Flea to name a few.
ChrisCYWG 01-24-2007, 10:57 PM Steve Harris
Ampeg SVT 01-24-2007, 11:54 PM Tim Commorford and Chris Squire
JazzBassJuke 01-25-2007, 11:41 AM Charlie Hayward from Charlie Daniels (check out No Place To Go on the Fire On The Mountain album), Pat Daugherty of Black Oak Arkansas (Halls of Karma, When Electricity Came To Arkansas, Lord Have Mercy), Nick St. Nicholas of Steppenwolf, and Allen Woody. Not your usual suspects are they?

Followed by a very long list of other bassists. lol...
CraigG 02-02-2007, 11:10 PM Rock - Peter "Mars" Cowling in his Pat Travers days
Everything Else - Abraham Laboriel because he is "da bomb!" :D
ibnzneksrul 02-02-2007, 11:14 PM Geddy Lee
Honorable mention: Jeff Ament's 12-string work in 'Jeremy' is a masterpiece.
funkygospel 02-03-2007, 01:06 PM +infinity on the Terrance Palmer nomination
He is everywhere in gospel music right now, playing for mutiple artists like Munizzi and Cece Winans. And of course his best work with Israel and New Breed
bassburnout 02-03-2007, 05:49 PM I'm gonna throws votes out to Marcus Miller and Fieldy.
But lets be honest, when i first started playing, I was down with Mark Hoppus. Don't make fun of me too hard guys, but his riffs were a good way to start out.
ChrisYoung 02-04-2007, 12:27 AM Justin Chancellor
SGT. Pepper 02-05-2007, 12:04 PM Billy Shears, AKA Paul McCartney.
XtraLongScale 02-05-2007, 06:02 PM I'd split it down the middle with Tony Levin and Chuck Rainey.
steveb98 02-06-2007, 12:07 AM There are a lot I could list, but let me choose one that doesn't get mentioned a lot. Jimmy "Flim" Johnson. Amazing sense of time, great lines, and doesn't sound flashy till you really listen and some very cool things going on in his parts for a tune.
Maude 02-06-2007, 03:52 PM All the usual suspects cant fail to inspire but I've always liked Billy Gould from Faith No More, cool sound, amazin' sense of rythym and tight as a tight thing.
My first bass was a Yamaha Billy Sheehan signature model (mmm, mint green) and although I'm not really into his thing I can't help but be amazed at what he does with a bass.
Check out this clip on Youtube.....

MAGUS® 02-08-2007, 06:02 PM Right ! Its a passive Magnum 1 - heres a much better view of the bass. I think someone already said it was a 1 though...

Uprights: Mingus, Ray Brown and Niels Henning Orsted Pedersen.
Sharkman 02-17-2007, 07:18 PM I just had to say something... as I'm not much into "stunt" bassists, I'll stick with:
- Levin (the man that turned me into a bass player, see below...)
- Chancellor
- Sting
- McCartney
Making good songs is not a work out.
P.S.- After 20+ years still trying to get the opening sound from "Man with an open heart" by King Crimson, what pedals is Tony using???????
