I would like to upgrade the pick ups on my KSD 5 string. I currently have single coil pick ups and I like a little more bridge blended in which gives me a 60 cycle hum.

Will I lose anything by going to split coil? I am considering the following pups:

Lindy Fralin- Have heard them on a 4 string and they are awsome, but not sure if they will have the same results on a
5.

Seymour Duncan Basslines- I heard them on a Mike Lull 5 and I like them a lot.

Nordstrand- I hear good things about them, but they are obviously a little pricey.

I am looking for some growl...

i put basslines stacked vintage in my jag, i know its a 4 but same principle.

well the pickups sound like they should (vintage growly jazz) but with no hum as they are stacked coils.

in my opinion i think the pickup as long as it is well made has only a minor part in the overall tone especially in a quality instrument, obviously different types of pickup have their own sound and a well made pickup should be a fine example of its kind.

Bill Lawrence makes the best noiseless J-type pickups I have ever tried. The J-45 is a masterpiece.
