Hi all,

I am exclusively a ProTools user. I am currently looking at getting a Mackie Onyx 1640 Mixer for primarily live performance. If I get the Firewire option on the mixer I could record 16 tracks straight to my laptop into Tracktion2 (provided). However, from here I would want to import the files (assuming mono WAV) into ProTools for mixing, plugins, mastering, etc.

Is this easy to do?

Does anyone here currently use this setup?

Thanks
Rob

Very easy using the import audio menu in ProTools.

So Tracktion records the audio into standard WAV files (1 file per track)?

Thanks

Yes. Except that IIRC (don't quote me, check the online manual!), I believe Tracktion actually records all files as stereo, even if the source is mono. I don't think that would make any difference in terms of ProTools, unless your track count is limited in some way.

In addition, again IIRC (check with the experts), Tracktion by default records audio as broadcast wave files, meaning (as you probably know) that placement on the timeline is recorded with the file. So if you have a Tracktion track that doesn't start right at the beginning but partway in, ProTools should be able to to take it and use the BWF metadata to put it at the right spot. I assume ProTools recognizes BWF/BWAV files (sorry, I know zip about PT)?
