So im sitting here sanding and glueing up my neck lam of goncalo alves and rosewood.(im having fun doing it too) And i stand back with gratification knowing that i finally started my project. Then i start to scratch my wrist(out of instinct of course) and when i look down i realize its not just an itch, its a big ass rash with a welp right in the middle. I say to myself, well i guess im allergic to rosewood...this sucks!:(

This is my first build too, some guys get a least a couple years. pfff....

I suppose it could be the goncalo, but i have a feeling its the rosewood(honduras). Has anybody had any bad experiences with either? toxicity levels?

I have the allergy to Bolivian Rosewood, probably very similar reaction you yours. Sorry to hear about it, it really sucks.

Man, I worked with a wood called Iroko (building a cabinet for my amp) and man, I'm not alergic to it but it is HARSH! As soon as I breathed any in I couldn't help but start coughing... nasty stuff!

lets hope you never develop one. My reaction wasn't as bad as thought it was gonna be. About 15 min. after i got done typing it went away, rash and all.

BTW-kudos on that guitar man. Its looks kick ass and i bet it plays even better

Just remember, there are two types of woodworkers, those allergic to cocobolo and those who aren't.

Next time you'll use another wood. It does blow to have to cross dalbergia off the list but there are lots of other woods. Wear long sleeve shirts and pay close attention to how your skin is reacting as you work with woods you're not sure about.

It's also probably worth putting together a downdraft sanding table and using that any time you are going to generate fine dust.

Oh well, like you said..there are other woods i can use. This was a learning experience. I'll put up an in progress thread as soon as i find my camera.

Well, presumably the dust got in between. I guess you can be glad you did take those precautions, it could have been a lot worse!
