I have a natural colored bass with clear nitrocellulose, and it has some finger wear above the pickups on the body, through to the wood. Whats the way to go about it. It's a small spot, and I'd like to avoid a total respray.

depending on the size of the area, you can use a lacquer burn in stick, or you can get a can of nitro spray from Stew Mac or Reranch etc. Tape it off and put a few of thin coats on it. Sand and buff to match.
Lacquer burns into itself, so when doing a repair like this, you dont have to worry about getting a layered loo, as the lacquer will elt into the previous finish. Then all you need to do is wet sand out the area to 1500 0r 2000 and buff with some rubbing compound and wax.
