anybody ever used this timber? The correct name is "Eucalyptus obliqua" I found a place with a huge supply of all different dimensions and grades, and I'm wondering if its suitable as a substitute for maple as a neck wood?

FBB Custom 01-29-2007, 10:22 AM The first thing you should do whenever you are interested in a new species, is search google for "<genus> <species> stiffness" Try and get numbers or descriptions and compare them against maple. Messmate is more likely going to be called eucalptus, australian oak, or stringybark in the US. I have used this stuff once but not for a neck. I think if I had it in good supply, I would use it in a neck. Watch out for defects and big gum veins. wsal 01-31-2007, 12:24 AM I'm gunna bump this up again, see if I can gather anymore opinions... How about Phil Mailloux? If you're reading this, have you ever used Messmate? Cheers Will |
