My recorder produces stereo WAV files that transfer to PC. I would like to be able to convert some to mp3.
Any ideas? Post'm if ya got'm.
Thanks

I don't know what programs you are using, but I use audacity (free), and that will let you output an .mp3 (at least my mac version will). Also, I think iTunes might let you convert a .wav to an .mp3.

I don't have a recording program on the PC.
Thanks for the i-tunes tip. I'll check it out.

Yes, I'm pretty sure iTunes can do it, but you may need to change its default setting, which is to use AAC format. Click Edit/Preferences/Advanced/Importing, then choose MP3 from the drop-down.

if itunes can't, Audacity is free, so it's worth a shot too.

good luck

I've used dbPowerAmp for years now with good success.

Best of luck and have fun!

If you're working under Windows on a PC, I can recommend an excellent freeware file convertor called The MPEG Suite. It's small, very fast, and fully configurable. I've used it for several years to do all my WAV/mp3 encoding, and it produces good results.

Here's a download link for you:

I checked out dbPowerAmp. During conversion it needed some sort of licsense for mp3 that I apparetly don't have.
I should state the reason I want mp3 files is to send them as wav files are much larger.

I've used Switch (http://www.download.com/Switch/3000-2140_4-10430342.html) -- it's free and works great.

I noticed that when I went to put it on another computer. I think there is some kind of licensing fee with MP3 and because there is a shareware add on that the dbPower AMP folks sell, it is therefore a commercial application. The true freeware products seem to be able to do it without a license (or maybe it is a % of nothing). This is my understanding but I got from just some guy on the Internet (and now you are getting it from some guy on the Internet) so it may not be totally correct. I don't know if getting the freeware LAME from SourceForge for Audacity also works for dbPower AMP or not.

Bamm! Switch got the job done for me. Thank you Tulsa. I tried iTunes, works for iTunes, but not for what I need, then mpeg suit, couldn't get it to work. I just loaded switch and like a piece of cake, got er done.
I love this place!

the one I use that does a WHOLE LOT MORE is Goldwave.
http://www.goldwave.com/features.php
Uses?

1) Convert H4 wavs to mpeg
2) Convert Xitel Inport wavs to mpeg
3) Pitch shift songs that "we play it in a different key" happens
4) Level channels of a recording
5) Add effects, EQ, etc. to any recording
6) Cut up an entire set's WAV into mpeg songs

and tons more.

Here's part of a gig recorded with the ZOOM H4 being cut into songs:

So easy, my children use it all the time too.

I use a program called 'CDex' worked well for years never had any trouble with it at all.
Converts MP3 - Wav and Wav - MP3. Also rips from CD's in Wav or MP3.
And its free.
