By the time I get down there it will be like 7:45...:scowl: bassthumpa 02-07-2007, 04:43 PM What's with bass clinics always being held on Wednesdays? Bass Emporium have had a few down here that I was interested in, but always on a Wednesday. Wendesday isn't an option for me, bible study night. Gah!! McHack 02-07-2007, 05:00 PM Ya ya, everyone has a new bass... sounds like a great time to actually have a GTG... Dan1099 02-07-2007, 09:01 PM Do we win some sort of prize or something? I bet this thread has the highest number of posts/number of posters ratio TB has ever seen. Question is, how do we notify everyone who posted over in the old thread to come over here???Already done. The mod posted the link to this thread in the last thread, so everybody will get a notifier and see it in the last post. They just have to post here (or just subscribe) to get "back on board". No problem. vision 02-08-2007, 07:18 AM Yep, based on the thread title I'm sure they'll all notice also... Plus, we'll have to rent a truck for a day, which would be another $50 or so. KJung 02-14-2007, 08:56 AM LDS doesn't have a whole lot of intersting stock in the store at the moment, and I always feel kind of strange hauling all our stuff in there. Late afternoon is usually not a big deal, but filling the floor with stuff they don't selll on a Saturday is probably not a good idea. And no I can't!!! OK, excuse time!! Matt will back me up on this (I hope!!) We did 11 services over two days (like I've mentioned a few times) on every other hour. That was from the last service on the second day (very last service actually). We play, half hour break (for the message) play again for 35 min. done. Half hour or so break, start again basicly. So by the time that last service came around, the tips of my fingers hurt, my legs and back were sore as all hell, went through two sets of string on the GS5. IMO, my playing kinda was terrible on that vid, but, it was a LOT of fun!!!! I'm getting a copy of the 3rd service, which is when we hit our "sweet spot" and things started rocking. The band really locked in. If can post that stuff up (I didn't post up that, not sure who did actually) I will. There is another song near the end "Thank You For Hearing Me" where the bass tone is killin'. That was the Parker on that tune. Way up in the mix actually. That GS5 really does sound good fellas. Ash/Maple- Nordstrand dual coils/ Glockenclang pre. Direct through a Demeter Tube DI mixed with my post DI signal from my Thunderfunk 550B. No cab on stage, just monitors. So your getting a mixed dry and my EQ'd sound I guess. Not sure what the production room got to be honest. KJung 02-19-2007, 11:21 AM IMO your bass playing was the best thing about that video! Vic 02-19-2007, 12:11 PM IMO, my playing kinda was terrible on that vid...Well, your O is wrong. :) I'm getting a copy of the 3rd service, which is when we hit our "sweet spot" and things started rocking. The band really locked in. If can post that stuff up (I didn't post up that, not sure who did actually) I will.I want. If you can't post, then let me know where the secret stash is so I can download it. :) On the monitors thing vs FOH, I'm sure your tone (and the overall mix) was great. I've been digging back into the in-ear systems lately and I've ventured out to FOH with my stage rig turned off and it sounded just a good as usual (FWIW). The only downside to these (IMHO) is when you're playing in a smaller venue and some of your audience doesn't get "FOH sound". That's when your "stage mix" actually matters to patrons. When they get right up in front of the stage, they don't hear the mains much, so you have to still sound like a band on stage... not just drums and guitar. :) Joelc73 02-19-2007, 12:46 PM Great playing, as usual, Mike! I'd love to check out the other video you mentioned. Joel matrok 02-19-2007, 01:42 PM Kensington Main campus is a grueling weekend experience. (That's why I don't play there.) And Christmas is that times 11!! I'll bet you were beat by the end. I'm with Vic, your O is wrong. But I'd like to see the other service if that was the worst. MikeBass 02-19-2007, 02:36 PM Kensington Main campus is a grueling weekend experience. (That's why I don't play there.) And Christmas is that times 11!! I'll bet you were beat by the end. I'm with Vic, your O is wrong. But I'd like to see the other service if that was the worst. Dude, two 6+ hour rehearsals for run throughs, plus band run throughs the week prior. TOUGH!!!! 6:30AM call times. You can tell by the vocalist voices. They were straining a bit by that point!!! But man was it fun!!!!!:D BTW, the whole thing was to a click as well. What you can't see (and again, Matt will tell you) there are two big video monitors (like 20x30 or something) on either side of the stage, and they play video clips that are in sequence with us, so we are locked into the click the whole 10+ min (it's actually missing the first min or so of the opening). Everytime except one number, we were lock in with a click. And thanks guys, after last year, it was nice to end it not only with (and most importantly)a re-newed sence of Christ in my life, but also with a high note playing wise!!!! Our Easter services are coming up and are supposed to be just as intense. Only 9 over two days!! But I guess a lot more music. Mark at AcuGroove and Joel from the Groove Shoope have both went out of their way to help me out in various ways, and so many others as well. My wife and I were talking the other night about this, how do we thank every one. Well, as simple as it sounds, "Thank You". Now, enough of this serious stuff, when the heck is the next B3!!!!!!!!?!?!?!?!??! Vic 02-19-2007, 02:47 PM Now, enough of this serious stuff, when the heck is the next B3!!!!!!!!?!?!?!?!??!No, not B3, but B3. Get it right or we'll have the attorneys out there after you... oh... wait... that's right... Tom can do it... :D tombowlus 02-19-2007, 02:51 PM Okay, folks, I think I have a target date for the next B3 GTG!!! Get this, Pete Skjold - Texan that he is - will be in Ohio visiting his in-laws next month. I have arranged to steal him away for a day or so, and thought that this would be the perfect impetus for a new GTG date. Because of the timing of his visit, we can really only fit in one Saturday (which is the night that seems to fit the best for most people). And that happens to be the day that he is flying in, I think, so I will probably just pick him up at the airport and then drive him back to my house. The date, you ask? March 10!!!! Just kidding, Steve, it is actually March 17th, St. Patrick's Day. As in the past, people would be welcome to crash at my house Saturday night. I am hoping to have a drummer and a guitar player lined up, and I might be able to get a hall or large conference room for us to use. If not, the basement beckons. :D KJung 02-19-2007, 02:53 PM Okay, folks, I think I have a target date for the next B3 GTG!!! Get this, Pete Skjold - Texan that he is - will be in Ohio visiting his in-laws next month. Oh man, I don't really want to drive 7 hours back home right before a gig... *sob*... what do I do... cheezewiz 02-19-2007, 03:07 PM Damn. I'm pretty sure I have a gig that night. Biker4Him 02-19-2007, 03:07 PM Hey.. this is a really bad idea. SOmeone needs to lock Pete in at the shop... He has basses to build. JoshB 02-19-2007, 03:12 PM believe it or not, I believe I have a gig that day too... tombowlus 02-19-2007, 03:18 PM Hmmmm.... Maybe the following Friday? He is here from the 17th to the 24th. :hmm: McHack 02-19-2007, 03:19 PM Yea, St Patty's day is rough. KJung 02-19-2007, 03:23 PM Fridays and Saturdays are going to be pretty tough for those of us that play out regularly... especially getting into March when the 'freelance private/corporate gig season' kicks in. We might be able to do a mid-week GTG, but that might make it rough on some folks. Tom. Tim Cole 02-19-2007, 03:41 PM I'm booked the 15th, 17th, 23rd, 24th, and 31st. Not looking good for me. joelb79 02-19-2007, 03:44 PM That GS5 really does sound good fellas. Well the jazz im building is ash body, maple neck. I actually thought you sounded tinny, but i cant crank it here at the office. Ash generaly brings out the upper mids, and maple makes for a crispness. So yes i hear the wood. But yes now that you mention demeter, i defiantly hear that top end "shimmer" or in the case of an over active thumb, clank clank. Mike you always sound good im not going to doubt it.. It was just an observation on the play style. It fit well though :) :hyper: When i play at church, its saturday night 4pm setup, 6:00 service, 8:00 service, about 40 minutes playing each. then 8am setup on sunday, 8:45 service with 28 minutes playing, then two more big services (by big i mean, we overflow), 10:00am and 11:30am, both with full music productions of 45 minutes. We get a lot of younger crowd people on saturday nights, so we push a little hot. My signal chain is a little less complicated. I use my Jazz into one direct box and i Use as little of this genz-benz combo as possible for stage mix. I generally never get a monitor so i work with the drummer to lock in. We have Cello, Bass, 2 Guitars, and Drums. Vocals wise, we use a 3 piece. And it seems like our format of church may be very similar, abet we are smaller, and tailored towards MSU Students. I'd LOVE to come check out a service you play at Mike! And as soon as you guys decide on a date for anything, i'll make my best effort to make it out! Steve Clark 02-19-2007, 03:55 PM Nice playing and tone (as always!) Mike! + . . a whole bunch. I really enjoyed this performace. The whole presentation was amazing. Super tight and to a click which makes the whole thing even better. I did a studio session last week and the drummer couldn't keep to the click. Same again tomorrow I fear. I'm going to send this on to the guys I am recording for so they can hear a great band . . to a click. Funky as all get out. Look forward to hearing Mike at the next GTG. burk48237 02-19-2007, 04:18 PM Tom, I can do the 17th but the 24th will be tough. The GS next time!!) And I was pounding loud!!! Now I just gotta figure out how to rip-it and edit out MPEG2 so I can post it up on YouTube. If possible, take one of the new Skjold 5's and plug it into the Trace V8. Run a 6' speaker cable out of the V8 and have Burk hold the other end in his left hand. Then, have Burk hold the end of another speaker cable in his right hand and plug the other end into the NV215. Now, turn the V8 all the way up and play even quarter notes on the low B. My guess is the 'Burk Buffer' will smooth out the upper mids, but still allow the grunt and grind of the V8 to come through, along with the general clarity of the Skjold. Ken PS Also, could you take a picture of Burk about 5 minutes into the test and post on the new B3 thread. :D tombowlus 02-21-2007, 09:35 AM Have fun guys. When our boy (our second child) was born overseas, Libbie (my wife) was going through some fairly difficult health challenges. Whether as a result of this or something else, Nicolas turned out to be an autistic child. At the time (and for some time afterwards) both of us had some difficult moments trusting in the fact that He knew us better than we knew ourselves and that He wouldn't give us something we couldn't handle. While I won't say that the road has been easy, Nicolas is pure joy and energy in our home...I can't imagine life without him. He just turned 7 on Valentine's Day, and he remains as full of life and happiness as we could have ever hoped for. Yes, his therapy and all that goes with it keeps us all on our toes; however, God is truly good and has a purpose, even if it doesn't seem that way at first blush. Our prayers are with you both - congratulations again! Just a note - can't wait until I eventually get Matt's zebrawood Skjold here in my hot little hands! He really makes that BEAD tuning work... he uses a very small gauge B string and a short scale bass (although we are giving him trouble at the moment for buying a 35" scale 5 string!), and you dont' really notice how low he's playing, since the balance between the strings is so good. That could have been the backline provided, though. Definitely and MM&W type of vibe going on. There were even people in the crowd calling for their songs! FWIW, it was a Battle of the Bands type ordeal, and his band took first, with us in second. Lots of those Detroit guys have made it down, but I can PM you my address/directions, if you are interested in coming. We'd love to have you! :) G 03-01-2007, 09:03 AM Why do I get the feeling that I'll be driving back to MI at 4:30 in the morn? tombowlus 03-01-2007, 09:11 AM Why do I get the feeling that I'll be driving back to MI at 4:30 in the morn? LOL, we will most likely go quite late, and alcohol will be on hand. This is why I strongly encourage folks to crash for the night. :) vision 03-01-2007, 09:24 AM Why do I get the feeling that I'll be driving back to MI at 4:30 in the morn? +1...:D :p JoshB 03-01-2007, 10:07 AM If their keyboard were just a tad bit bigger, there would have been one more Mac user here on TB. You let the KEYBOARD deter you? What a crack up!! The macbook might have been a little small, but the pro should have been right up your alley. IMO of course... I tried the Mac laptop with the 17" screen (which was my front runner for a laptop), and my hands did not feel comfortable. Since I was hoping to use a laptop as a desktop replacement, both at the office and at home, and since I normally use a split keyboard (wide hands), this was a factor to me. I have dealt with carpal tunnel in the past, so I am perhaps overly sensitive to this issue. Nah...when I'm at home I hook up an external mouse, keyboard and a flat panel...I feel your pain, literally. cheezewiz 03-01-2007, 10:49 AM That may not be quite true. I think I drove back home at 3am last time, not 430! :) At least I only have a half hour to go! I'll be there about 7 that night Tom! DO NOT let Jason eat all the Pizza from Hell. Guys, you're in for a treat, watching this big giant tough looking Vision guy cry from a slice of pizza :). Of course, then he destroys you with his monster chops and that SWEET Cirrus of his so you HAVE to make fun of his pizza reaction. :) vision 03-01-2007, 11:04 AM lol!!!
