The song is called Quarter to Five. I actually went into the studio over the summer, but I didn't get a copy of the cd until now. The guy behind the board didn't do a very good job with the drums, and the bass sounds no different than the raw track I recorded, but it came out fine. Overall I think it came out pretty good. I would have mixed it a lot differently, but that wasn't my job.

Sounds good, but I think a string pad would help, and a little less pounding out quarter notes on the piano.

The drums come in rough.

The kick sounds terrible for this song.

Way too heavy on the compressor. (A conversion artifact maybe?)

And yeah, the quarter notes on the piano are a bit excessive.

The rest of it sounds really really good.

I liked the bassline and the vocals. The piano sounded good (except the quarter note thing) and the chimes were a nice effect.

All in all I would give this a thumbs up.

The mix is not a good one. The drums should be really soft (I would have used a percussionist). I didn't like that pattern the drummer was using either! As for the bass playing, I honestly think it's way too busy. A song like that should be about the vocalist. Stick with the roots and play simple for a song like that. There's a place for creative playing and a place to lay back and let the song flow. One last thing, the drummer and bassist should always work together to define a solid backbone to any song. It sounded, to me, like you guys were on different pages. Just my opinion.

Yeah I agree with that, but I really didn't have much of a say with that at all, as a matter of fact I hadn't heard anything besides a scratch piano part until a few days ago(and it was recorded over the summer)

Yeah the guy had a really crappy drumset, and his mixing didn't make them sound any better, but thanks for the kind words, it was something fairly different than what I usually do so it was a good experience.

I agree for the most part with what you said, as I said before, I also hate the mixing on the drums. I could go either way on what he is playing, but I never even played the song live with the drummer. The whole process of how the guy recorded it was kind of whacked, and it could definantly be improved on, and I'm hoping he learned that from us. All I played to was a scratch piano track and her vocals. There were a few takes that I played a lot mellower, but she liked it when I played like that (it was her song so I better do what she says!) I think there were parts in my line that could be changed for the better, but the first time I saw the chart was the first take so I think it went well for that.

Terrible mix. Very amatuerish. No polish. That's the biggest problem.

Great vocals! I don't have a problem with the piano, I think it fits, just out of place in the mix. Bass playing is fine, very flat and lifeless, again a mix problem.

A good mix would really turn this around, but the vocal talent still shines...

this isnt a criticism or anything but...get a myspace. like alot of people im incredibly lazy and cant be bothered to wait (even a second) for downloads. myspace is a great way to promote bands and really easy to update, i recommend it for any band. id love to listen but just cant be arsed to wait. sorry for the rant but i think you'll thank me later :)
