nonohmic 02-12-2007, 03:48 AM Great musicians but I say 'meh' to the music.
justinb515 02-12-2007, 03:52 AM yeah that's a dang good band. they kind of remind me of level 42
That Larry Carlton! Lotsa Montreux DVD's out now - I have Marcus Miller playing with Clapton, Sample, Gadd and Sanborn .. supergroup.
sandmann 02-12-2007, 04:40 AM no question, these guys are all fantastic musicians. playing and sound of that bassman is a dream. but after 10 minutes of listening to that my ears definetly need a rest.
sandmann
saxnbass 02-12-2007, 04:45 AM I love that tone. I would love to have that tone, or a Mark King tone, or a Marcus Miller tone. But guess what, I can't get any of those. :(
Rano Bass 02-12-2007, 06:15 AM Who says a jazz with a rosewood board is not bright enough for slapping?
Very good musicians, no doubt about it.
Marcus 02-12-2007, 07:22 AM Finally, someone explains to me what music is.
koentje_bassist 02-12-2007, 08:56 AM Best music I've ever heard!
Musiclogic 02-12-2007, 10:32 AM Kirk Whallum on Alto....tht guy wails.....way too cool would love to see Boney and Kirk cut heads sometime.....sax players paradise
BassoP 02-12-2007, 10:34 AM Great musicians but I say 'meh' to the music.
+1 A kickin bassline, then the elevator doors closed
DWBass 02-12-2007, 10:37 AM Michael Manson (killer player) on bass and Kenwood Denard on drums! Both cats are monster players! I have the DVD and cd! A must have for the collection.
I think it sounds great! Marcus Miller type of sound.
DWBass 02-12-2007, 10:38 AM That Larry Carlton! Lotsa Montreux DVD's out now - I have Marcus Miller playing with Clapton, Sample, Gadd and Sanborn .. supergroup.I have that one as well. Marcus is quite subdued on that one!
BassoP 02-12-2007, 10:38 AM +1 A kickin bassline, then the elevator doors closed
Actually, the solos are pretty kickin. It is just the synth tone or something that isn't working for me.
Carver 02-12-2007, 10:39 AM That's Mike Manson on bass. Killer player! He's also on Kirk Whalum's Gospel according to Jazz Chapter II DVD.
Fuzzbass 02-12-2007, 10:47 AM Bumpin'!
BassSlave 02-12-2007, 10:48 AM That's Michael Manson on bass. Looks like he's thumping his Fender Deluxe 5. I'm surprised he didn't break his G-string on that tune and those of you who know Mike, know exactly what I'm talking about. He's a monster bassist!
bassthumpa 02-12-2007, 10:54 AM FYI, that's an interpretation of an Incognito song.
BassSlave 02-12-2007, 11:06 AM Nope, wrong. That's "Always There" written by Ronnie Laws. Jeff Lorber also had a populur cover of that tune. Incognito?:scowl: I don't think so...........
FYI, that's an interpretation of an Incognito song.
funkalicious101 02-12-2007, 11:06 AM sounds alot like mark king
j-raj 02-12-2007, 11:07 AM beat me to it... Mike is a great bassist.
Boney James needs to do something about that hair, Rick needs a shirt on top of that wife-beater... and Kenny and Kirk are the coolest cats up there IMO!!!
...OH WAIT, isn't this supposed to be in [BG] Recordings or something?
Dbassmon 02-12-2007, 11:45 AM FYI, that's an interpretation of an Incognito song.
Actually that is in correct, it's a tune called "always there" by Saxman Ronny Laws, brother of virtuoso jazz flutest Hubert Laws. Circa 1978 give or take
Great stuff - this is taken from a DVD called "Casino Lights" with other smooth jazz / fusion acts. Bass playing highlights includes James Genus DB playing w/ Bob James, and the guy who plays with George Duke on "Brazilian Love Affair" - terrific solo!
Oh, and sound quality is superb too.
