I had a chance to see this up and coming group a couple of weeks ago, and they blew us away. Their stuff was some pretty creative rock and roll, and the energy was amazing.

Bassist Jake Sproul picked up lead vocals and is quite a player too - not just come cool riffs, he layed down a monster groove on a 62RI jazz. His brother Daniel was an incredible guitar player, and drummer Nate Barnes is a hammerhead, hiding behind this monster kick drum and just killing a couple of floor toms and rides. All in all a very good stage presence.

It was a mid-week show in an 'in between' city (eugene, OR) so there were only maybe 50 people there, but they gave us over 2 hours and then jumped off the stage and met everyone afterward.

They've already been on tour with the Chili Peppers and Eddie Van Halen and they'll be touring with The Who in a couple months. There's an album out with some good cuts, but they're a group with a live energy that goes beyond what you hear in the studio.

There's a killer live video on their myspace site: http://www.myspace.com/rosehilldrive that's well worth the watch.

Saw them last year opening for the Who in Palm Springs. I've never heard of them before, and I was pleasantly surprised. I'm not sure where they fit "genre" wise--maybe classic rock, maybe stoner rock---whichever, I enjoyed thier show.

Definitely have some classic rock thing going for them - they covered power of soul and did fairies wear boots better than any sabbath recording I've heard. But there's an edge to it that you could call stoner rock or grunge or whatever. Like a lot of good rock bands, you start splitting hairs trying to categorize it to describe it to other people, it's just good rock :)

At any rate, the musicianship is top-notch beyond their years - they're 23 or 24. Its cool that bands like this and wolfmother can make it.

Speaking of the who, they have a 30 minute interview/jam with Pete Townshend on their site rosehilldrive.com that's kinda cool.

Absolutely amazing band! I had the pleasure of opening up for them with my old band in Sep 2006 at North Star Bar in Philly (shortly before Pete Townsend hand picked them to open for The Who). I was absolutely blown away and have been a fan ever since. Cool guys too. They're coming out with a new studio album on June 24th! Can't wait.
