I was wondering if anyone knows of any electronics company that makes a device which can isolate the bass on a recording?

I found an item by Reed Kotler called the LBR-100. (it is now discontinued).

I have seen some different software applications which claim to do this but I am not an MIT graduate and don't feel like going through the hassle of learning frequency theory.

I remember someone living in an apartment below me, cranking their stereo and how I could easily hear the bass without all of the other stuff distracting me.

Any simple answers (without having to rent a downstairs apartment for my stereo)

Thanks:confused:

You might look at the Tascam CD-BT1 Bass Trainer. Some of the guys on the list have had problems with them. That said, I haven't had any trouble with mine.

Use Transcribe!

It is free.

Yeah,

I read some stuff about Transcribe, but couldn't figure out what to do with it once I had it.

As much as computers are helpful, they are also a curse to someone like myself who grew up with those big old scratchy vinyl discs.

Buttons scare me!

If anyone has used Transcribe to bring the bass lines out, Please...any help or tips would be helpful!

Thanks,

Bob

The latest version of Transcribe! (I'm not sure about older versions, but the latest one is what I'm using) has some pretty good EQing, which lets you reduce what is heard to mostly just the bass, with a bit of kick, etc, in it.

You can see what it is playing in waveform format. From there, it can actually tell you what notes are being played if you select the part of the waveform. I had to tweak the EQ a little to get some more low mids in, to make it easier to pinpoint notes - but it makes the job MUCH MUCH faster.

Lol, when Stanley said use Transcribe, I thought he was being sarcastic and saying that he should figure out the line by ear, lol.
