Hello,

I got my used Ibanez BTB 550 yesterday, and everything is great except there's no sustain on the E string. I thougt the string was broken, so I replaced a new one and still no change.

The first attack is clear and full, but no overtone. it's just like playing harmonics.

help anyone ?? :bawl:

after a playing a while, I started to relize that every note on the E string suffer the same problem.

maybe the nut was cut to low ??

Usually that indicates the pups being too high, choking off the note with the magnets.

if the nut slot on your E is too low (you can usually tell with one look) have a tech replace the nut, shouldnt be too expensive.
But also make sure the neck is straight and bridge is set OK, because idiosyncrasies of the bass may mean that a warped neck, or too low bridge dont create buzz, but just a sustainless sound.

When the OP said that every note on the E string was choked, the nut couldn't be the problem because nut problems generally only occur on open strings.
