VIEW FULL LIVE VERSION : Zon on its way
DocBop 02-28-2007, 01:04 AM Okay Todd its all your fault, I just bought a used Zon Sonus Special 6-string off the internet. I would of loved to get a new TJ model, but my checkbook disagreed. :D It's '96 model similar to my teachers (his fault too) and I should have it early next week. Can't wait to play it.
Cairobill 02-28-2007, 05:19 AM After owning a Zon Special Fretless Five for a few years, I pulled the trigger on a Sonus six string (I think 03) off Ebay. It is a FANTASTIC bass - the design is flawless. The sort of problems you get with other sixers are solved, they're not too heavy, no neck dive. It has become my go to bass, the range of top drawer tones you can get out of the thing is huge. It is super comfortable. Amazing basses...my one has a ridiculous spalt maple top...I'm not a rare wood junkie but I really like it.
However, given the fact that they're so good, they don't seem to be that common second hand. I wonder how many they make per year? Maybe the people that buy them never sell them on?

DocBop 02-28-2007, 09:30 AM I would agree people tend to hang onto thier Zon's you don't see a lot used. Like you I'm not that into exotic woods, but the one I'm getting has a bubinga top and looks great.

Hi Steve,
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!:hyper: Way to go...You've got a tremendous instrument there. I'm totally amazed at how good my ZON is. Joe is 20 years ahead of his time in my opinion...those necks are AMAZING.
Anyway....thanks for the update. Keep me posted...
DocBop 03-07-2007, 11:35 PM My Zon 6-string arrived tonight and I am amazed. The neck is so thin yet solid as a rock. The clarity of notes and chords beautiful. Then I play a lot of R&B and can't believe how punchy the sound is. Then just moving my hand a little I can control the tone. Bass look great and it's eleven years old. A couple minor rattles that probaly are me not being used to it yet, but it is eleven years old so could need a fret dressing. I thought getting a 6-string it would be a speciality bass, but I'm seeing this could cover any type of gig.
I think I'm excited! :hyper:
Cairobill 03-08-2007, 03:57 AM Just to show off my new one too...;)
03 Sonus VI, Ash Body, Spalt Maple Top and McKeen preamp...
Amazing bass!
I love everything about the Sonus sixers except the sxtring spacing. Although I have seen a lot of variance in Zons. Can you get wider (18mm @ the bridge) spacing on a Zon 6?

Congrat's that is a beautiful bass. Interesting to see the evolution from my old one to your newer one. I played mine all night and sound is just amazing, especially the B-string. Playing chords even in low register sound good. Add me to the list of Zon fans.
Cairobill 03-08-2007, 12:03 PM They are amongst the best made and designed basses around IMO. I've got a fretless special V which has the most outrageous recording tone. It is a total beast. Your sixer must have some serious cojones...that pickup arrangement really gives the bass an edge.

DocBop 04-08-2007, 10:44 PM That is a beautiful bass and I imagine it plays just as sweet. I wish my 6-string had 19mm spacing, but I'm getting used to the 17mm.
Congrat's and enjoy!
