Ok, I have decided to sell and now have the correct info and value from Norm at Normans Rare Guitars here in So Cal (http://www.normansrareguitars.com/store/)

Fender 1970 Jazz bass (serial # 2891**)

Here is the low down according to Norm...

* The neck and body have been sprayed with a clear finish some time ago. The logo is correct.

* Pots have been changed - pickups are original

* Nut has been changed

* Pickguard has been changed

The trussrod functions perfectly as do the tuners.

Norm quoted me a street price of $2000, so that is my selling price. The bass comes in a newer SKB Freedom hard case.

$2000 plus shipping, insurance and PayPal fees (if used), I will not ship outside of the U.S. My price is firm and I am not looking for trades.

Here is a link for pictures:

Thanks for looking.

hey i have a question... are 70s basses still at all valuable if the logo has been refinished? my 71 p-bass had a total refinish and the logo is a different one than the spaghetti, the serial numbers all check out and its legit from the luthiers ive taken it to, but I have always been curious as to whether its still worth something.

now that i ever mean to sell it :)

thanks.

Yeah, I actually realized that after I posted the thread but didn't care to go back and change it.

Thanks!

I really have no idea...I am not an expert with the vintage stuff.

P-basses up until early 64 were common.

Afterthat, P-basses had the transition logo until late sixties when the new Fender CBS logo was used.

There is a real good explanation on this link:

There's something very funny looking about that logo. I think I know Jazz logos pretty well (yeah, really should get out a bit more), and I've never seen the 'Jazz Bass' lettering like that. Looks almost...hand written. :eyebrow:

Then i would suggest you get a job writing "Jazz bass" for fender.
