DarkStar'd OLP MM2! Killer!
Take a fine example of an OLP MM2, not one of the "junky feels and plays like cr** ones,'' wire the stock pup in series, add a DarkStar2 in the "big, phat killing machine position," wire it for vol/vol/tone, and what do you have?
A serious killin' machine!
The DarkStar is a very dynamic pickup that responds very well to light or heavy touch, and it works just great in this position on the body. Play soft and easy, and it's nice and mellow...dig in, and it just keeps getting bigger and more aggressive. There's enough lead on the pickup wires, and the route, to reverse it and set the poles towards the bridge. This brightens the tone a tad if you personally find it too deep. I looove it this way.
The MM pup, wired in series, is a great match for the DS2 in terms of volume, and with the "Jazz Bass" volume/volume/tone layout, you can solo either pickup, or blend them together in varying degrees for lots of bone crushing tones.
$375 to your door.
When Rodent built this for me, he did not want to ship it back, and his Seattle studio pro "beta tester" didn't either.
I looove this bass, but I've got something else on the horizon, and other DarkStar equipped basses...
