The neck was designed to have the forces that in tune strings subject it to. If you leave basses out of tune, the neck can "adjust" itself requiring a new setup once you string it back up. Now, if a bass has a super-stable neck then this point is moot as the neck isn't going to move. For instance, the modulus necks aren't going to tweak out on you unless they are defective. Sorry if this was in the wrong place, I just worry every time I see pictures of basses sans strings and mentions of slack string shipping. I have had a guitar and a bass both shipped to me and they were damaged in shipping due to being untuned. 95JettaCity 03-13-2007, 10:54 AM Is that a matching headstock color? I was once lectured by a buyer because I shipped a bass to him untuned :scowl:. Now I know not to do that, but before I've always thought it'd be practical to loosen the strings. You live you learn I guess... Back to the bass: The pics are not visible. Might want to check the image URL. I LOVE jazz basses so pic would be much appreciated. workdaddy 03-13-2007, 11:47 AM here we go again...................bass ruined from being detuned for shipping..............nonsense, absolute nonsense. AlmightyPancake 03-13-2007, 05:21 PM All PMs responded to. And this is NOT a Fender. I've had several PMs asking me when I bought this fender. It's notnotnotnotnotnotnotnot a fender. :p Yman 03-13-2007, 05:28 PM 'tis a shame you had to let the scarab go, but at least its at a good home. An amazing bass from a top notch builder! AlmightyPancake 03-13-2007, 05:33 PM 'tis a shame you had to let the scarab go, but at least its at a good home. An amazing bass from a top notch builder! Back where it belongs, in a way! I'm also learning that I'm just NOT a 4 string kinda guy. I love me some low B strings, but I also do LOTS o' stuff on the higher G and C strings--thus why my next bass is gonna be a 5er. AlmightyPancake 03-13-2007, 09:18 PM PMs replied to... there's a LOT of interest in this bass... just no firm offers! AlmightyPancake 03-14-2007, 01:43 PM PMs replied to. I'll have a definite weight on it fairly soon. I won't be around my dorm to weigh it until Saturday, but this should help the people asking me about the matching headstock. Still available. AlmightyPancake 03-15-2007, 09:52 PM Bump for price drop. Quadzilla 03-15-2007, 09:53 PM There is a HUGE thread on why you SHOULD ship basses in tune in the basses forum. Builder and bass shop owners even posted this AND this was also discussed in an article in Bass Player mag last year. The ONLY time you can ship detuned is if you loosen the truss all the way as well. The truss and strings are opposing each other in force on your neck. If you take away the force from only one and not the other, you risk warping or breaking the neck (physics 101).... Oh yeah, bump! :D AlmightyPancake 03-15-2007, 09:54 PM :) Edited and duly noted. Thanks everyone! I feel very foolish now. workdaddy 03-15-2007, 11:45 PM remember, believe only half of what you see and none of what you hear. interesting bass, if i buy it, please ship it to me ever-so-slightly downtuned, and leave the rod where it's at please. AlmightyPancake 03-16-2007, 02:37 AM If you buy it, I'll make sure to do that. I'll send this sucker however anyone wants. :bassist: iamlowsound 03-17-2007, 11:08 AM Bump for a cool bass, from a nice guy, built by a great builder. lowsound AlmightyPancake 03-18-2007, 12:26 PM Last price drop, last bump. AlmightyPancake 03-18-2007, 08:02 PM I can't believe this isn't gone. SundanceChile 03-18-2007, 10:01 PM Me neither. If I hadn't already had a Jazz, I would pick this up.
