Hi,
I have a friend in my small town (Gore Oklahoma) who is truly an artist with wood and stone, but he is not a luthier. I have taken him my solid maple, amber finish Spector Euro 4, and requested that he create knobs that will match the rose wood fret board, and rose wood covers for the PJ pups. Mother-of-pearl inlays on top of the pups and knobs.

The question: Does anyone have-diagrams-pictures-dimensions or advice on creating the P-covers for this bass since they are so close together? Also, will placing mother-of-pearl inlays on top of the pick-up covers interfere with the magnet's ability to pick up sound from the strings?

I know these are probably very simplistic and elementary questions for experienced luthiers; please forgive my ignorance! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's going to be difficult making wooden covers for those pickups that will fit the current routs. Plastic covers are very thin (<1/16") and wood is not a very good material for covers at this thickness. The good news is that wood and MOP inlays will not interfere with your pickup's function.

oh, another thing ...the pickups are EMGs on that bass, right? I think your only option may be to have some veneer glued on the top of the pickup because EMGs (and spector branded EMG type pickups) are epoxied on the plastic covers. I believe this has been discussed before, but I haven't done it, so I can't comment on this.
