My walking isnt bad, but i seem to get stuck "in the pentatonic box" when i walk. I know the chord shapes and understand modal jazz, but it is very difficult for me to "walk this way"
How can i improve?

Hi 479!!
Funny you should ask.....At the risk of sounding like a commercial...I would recommend you pick up my Walking Bass DVD. It's all there in an organized, easy to digest system. Volume 1 teaches you how to get the most out of "triads" and "chromatic approaches". You'd be amazed at how much you can play with just that information...
We've had a lot of success helping people with this system. Feel free to ask around. The guys here at Talkbass will give you the "lowdown". Plus, you can go to my YouTube channel.... go to http://www.youtube.com/user/toddjohnsonmusic and check out the "Walking bass line Modules system overview"....That should give you a pretty good picture.
Coincidentally....I've recently finished Volume 2 Scale Modules... where I teach you how to apply scales to your bass lines in the 4+2 fingering system. I "should" have DVD's arriving April 6th...
Again, I hate to sound like a salesman...but I produced these DVD's specifically to help guys like yourself.
I hope this helps....
