Sorry guys I posted this msg twice so I can get more response... I'm a greenhorn with a bass guitar...now that I got the courage to go & buy 1, I got a major headache of choosing the best 1 for the beginner...can you please tell me what I should see as a buyer...I've narrowed my selection down to these two choices...Thanks...
List:
1. Yamaha RBX170 RBX series
Bad: I've found out that I have to cough up more cash to get a small amp & carrying case, etc...
Good: I've heard that it's v.reliable & last long
2. Legend RB 400 bass guitar combo pack
Good: Legend made guitar, free amp, free tuner, free case, free stand, I've heard that it's reliable, super cheap @ $.340 a piece
Bad: ???

Out of those two, get the Yamaha.
Have you considered the latest Squier Vintage mods? Pretty good bang for the buck.
Also, consider a used bass. Good deals abound here on TB and eBay for near-mint condition instruments at a serious discount from buying new.

Thanks for the pointer, my budget's about $550 so I could forked out a bit extra for a 10watt amp or something since the rests of the equipments are so pricey down here in Adelaide. I'll stay away from Squier it's risky...a Fender would've been nice too but yet another risky buy for a beginner like me.
Anyone ever tried the Legend pack before?...
P>S: Some disheartening news for me, I've just been told that playing a bass is 20x harder than playing an acoustic damn...& wish I can get basic lessons when I was younger instead of piano...

Hi Yuk..
If you're looking at Starter Packs, I'd also reccommend the Squier pack... If you're looking at a starter pack, it might as well have Fender's name on it... :)
Your best bet will be to give Brandt a call at 866.751.3220 ro email him at brandt@theperfectbass.com. He can tell you exactly what would give you the best bacng for your buck!
Peace!

I've never played an acoustic damn but playing bass isn't that difficult. I don't think it's 20x harder than any other instrument. The Squire basses aren't too bad. Fender has been trying to improve that line. I played one at a local store and was impressed with the quality at such a low price.

Excellent...thanks v.much for the pointer I'll try to give him an email as soon as I'm free again since I'll be back to work again tommorow & I really gotta hit the blanket soon. =D
Oh and Freddels I'm not joking mate, a friend of mine who has been in a band for 4yrs told me that acoustic's much more managable than a bass since oneself don't have to worry about the odd snychronizing chords, or what not he told me...wonder if I can survive 1 month & @ least play some good solo songs from RHCP for example...& not to forget to mention that I'm seriously gonna spend my cash on the guitar+equipments (but practicing it without a teacher or any experience whatsoever)
