Greetings! I have changed a couple things in our board policy, so here's an overview:
First and most importantly, there is now a <b>new place for all commercial users and endorsing artists to disclose affiliations</b>. This info used to be in the "usertitle", but I have now made a <b>new profile field</b>, which you can edit via My TalkBass -> <a href="http://www.talkbass.com/forum/profile.php?do=editprofile">Edit Profile"</a>. The field is located under "Additional Information", and is titled "Disclosures". This disclosure will appear below your username and usertitle on your posts.
I have updated both the <a href="http://www.talkbass.com/forum/faq.php?faq=commuserpolicy#faq_cup">CUP</a> and the <a href="http://www.talkbass.com/forum/faq.php?faq=forum_rules#faq_rule9">Endorsing Artist</a> policy to reflect this change. This change makes it possible for all users to set their own disclosure statements (including non-supporters). It also frees up the usertitle field for supporting commercial users to use like any other supporting member.
The signature area is *not* a valid place for this disclosure, as some users have "view signatures" disabled in their prefs.
<b>Secondly</b>: The Endorsing Artist policy has been edited to include those users who are not officially endorsing artists, but yet receive remuneration (financially or in kind) from a gear company. I'll copy it here:
"<i>
If you are an artist who endorses a music-related company, or if you receive remuneration (financially or in-kind) as the result of a relationship you have with a company, please disclose this via the "Disclosures" field in your profile. The text should be plain and clear, with no disclaimers, hype etc. For example: "Endorsing Artist: Joe Doe Basses" or "Affiliated with JD Amps" or "Discounted Gear: JD Amps", etc.
Also, please preface any relevant gear reviews on product you're affiliated with, with a brief disclosure in the post itself.
The purpose of these disclosures is to provide those who read your posts with the full knowledge of your situation, when considering your opinions on gear. We recognize the fact that in some circumstances a minor discount or other "non-endorsing" remuneration may be too insignificant to consider for disclosure. We trust that as honest bass players you'll use your best judgment and moral guide to determine if your fellow members would benefit from the disclosure of this information. TalkBass reserves the right to require disclosure if the remuneration is deemed significant.</i>
"
Please contact us with any questions on these changes. Thanks!
