I didn't watch everything. Are bass clinics suppose to be instructional? Or do you just watch bassists jam?

Doug is the bassist that has made me want a pitch shifter.

He's a bad dude indeed. There was a George Clinton record, "Some Of My Best Jokes Are Friends", that T. Dolby and George produced some tracks w/ Doug on. He got to play real loose and aggro on them and they're just awesome. IIRC, he was part of the Sugarhill gang too.

Doug is the bomb(for those who may not know,that means that he's awesome),a lot of the techniques that some Bass players are more famous for today Doug was doing them in the 70's.I consider Doug to be one of the most versatile Bassist to ever pick up the instrument(just check out his discography),he's extremely versatile and he really is a visionary.

I'm not going to do the home work for those who may be interested so if you want to know more about Doug(and TM Stevens)start your research.

I saw Doug with Living Colour back in 92ish at the Warfield in San Fran. He honestly blew my mind, he's a really progressive player yet rooted in a deep classic funk feel. AMAZING!!!!!

Yes! "Strange Things" is the Tackhead CD to get if you only get one. I sure need a copy. I bought it so long ago, I had a cassette! As you might imagine, that bad boy unraveled a long time ago!:(

I agree 100%. As much as I respect Victor Wooten, I doubt if his impact would have been as big if Doug Wimbish had managed to get some gigs early on that really showcased his ability.

Doug Wimbish has an instructional video out with the drummer from Living Colour. It's not so great for instruction, IMO, but it really gives you a good idea of all of Doug Wimbish's techniques.:)

Great clips. It's rare that I'm into solo bass guitar, but I really dig this stuff!

I was lucky to do a string of dates opening up for Paula Cole (yeah, it was a long time ago). Doug was playing bass on the tour & was Uber-nice! The band I was with must have been the least funky in the world, yet Doug actually came to some soundchecks & had great things to say.

Bottom line: innovative playing, incredible diverse career, and a cool guy to boot!

The Wimbish DVD is New Dimensions for Bass by Rockhouse (2005.) Will Calhoun is the drummer.:)

+1 on Jungle Funk the band he did with Vinx. His solo album ' Trippy Notes for Bass' is also very cool.:bassist:

Doug came into the game as a studio Bassist when there were far more opportunities that offered work in that area than being a solo Bassist or a Bassist in a band that focused on allowing the bassist to solo.

and for those who don't know(and find it hard to believe)Doug was offered the Bass chair in the Rolling Stones but turned it down and when he did that's when the Stones started auditioning Bassist.

Doug told me this years ago and I kept it to myself but he has recently revealed this publicly.

Doug, and Living Colour, is one of the reasons why I started playing bass.. Not only a fantastic player but one of the only people out there that isnt afraid to use effects in a musical manner rather than just "make noise" (although when he does, he really pulls it off)
