This is in nice condition, and I really like the tones. A few have not liked them, but from my experimentation, it's great. You can get a good Flea-like tone and I think the upright bass tone is really fun to play with. Fender tones, etc., etc.
These were $1500 or more for a long time, but then they got a price drop, so I"ll do that price or a trade of some kind. MY selling price right now is $450, I would prefer a trade + cash, but whatever would be fine.
It's the sunburst color, and comes with nice gigbag, DI box, and manual. I'd throw in a free strap, too.

I'm confused. Is $550 the current going rate and you want a trade + cash or is $550 what you're selling yours for?

Hey I should have posted $450. Thanks for the heads up! I'd ideally want something like an sx bass + cash or a Yamaha worth 300 + 150 cash or something like that.
See, I need money but I want a backup bass, that's the real issue. :D

Ah, I see. Money and backup bass, that's tough. Good luck man.

Just to clarify, Line6 has been pretty adamant in saying that they simply dropped the price, but the variax basses are not discontinued. I think they explained it by saying that they are now priced closer to what the market will bear for them.
Just figured I would mention this, just in case anyone was scared away by the idea that these were discontinued.
Good luck selling the bass!

I've been pretty active on the Line 6 Variax bass forum this past month or so. Many of us there have asked whether the Variax basses have been discontinued and the best any of the Line 6 reps have been able to tell us is that "The Variax line has not been discontinued." To me this isn't answering the question - I'm sure they're not scrapping the whole line but at the same time I don't see them dropping the price on any of their other instruments. They've been pretty cryptic about it all.

Understood. Generally I highlighted this more in this case because a potential buyer might see the word "discontinued" and figure that reflects poorly on the instrument somehow.
I'm still not sure the dropped price means they are being discontinued though. Historically speaking, it seems like Line6 has dropped the prices on plenty of other Variax models from what they originally started out; normally that seems to coincide with introducing new Variax guitars, etc. (which is why I had thought the Variax Bass line was going to be expanded soon).
I think they are probably right though if the reasoning is to drop the price of the Variax Bass to encourage sales; it seems pretty clear that a number of people had been interested in them to some degree, but the original asking price was just too high for many people to consider. At $500 it's a much easier purchase for most people to justify.

I completely agree. I really like my Variax 4-string (and I'll like it even more when they either put a new neck and E-string piezo on it or ship me a new one altogether) but there's no way it's worth $1250! The body is really nice and the finish is flawless. The neck, though, is not the neck you'd expect to find on a $1250 bass and the tuners are pretty lame. They definitely blew their wad on the electronics and the actual bass took a back seat, and then they figured the versatility alone was worth the money. $500 seems like the perfect price which is why I now own one.
