VIEW FULL LIVE VERSION : Girlfriend wants me to play for her

My girlfriend wants me to "teach" her but if I don't want to teach, "just playing for me would be hott".

I like performing in front of lots of people in a band setting but I don't like one on one ****. Anyone got suggestions for licks I can play for her or teach her?

She's big into Greenday if you know any catchy basslines from them.

Longview?
The "solo" from welcome to paradise?
That's all I can think of atm

+1 on longview...

though you probably should skip the beginning measures of the intro for her.

My girlfriend (past tense) used to like for me to play too, although she liked for me to play an E over and over while she sat on the speaker cab. I think is was sexual, but I didn't care.

If you would have bought a 5 string, and played that low B for her over and over, she might not be your ex-girlfriend today :hiding:

Now that I think about it, maybe she wanted you to thump on her G-string, not your E string...

maybe you could just record her a song - happy compromise without the lameness of a bass serinade.

This relationship is so doomed to failure.

A bit of advice here; when ever a girl asks you to show her how to play don't hestiate but to show her. Thats how I met my wife 20 years ago. Don;t worry about what to show her I'm sure something will pop up.

You're all disgusting.

Show her two basslines - Brainstew from Green Day, then tell her it's the same as the classic Chicago song 25 or 6 to 4 (which it is, with chorus modification of course). The other is Stone Sour's "Through the Glass" (3 notes - not too hard).

However, the trick is "how" you show her - don't just give her the bass then point to where to where the fingers should go...

Strap the bass on to her, then move behind her and show her where to put her fingers - it's a "dance," dude!

for that you can just take her to the closest pool room and teach her 8 Ball the same way.

thats of course if you dont mind for the sleaziness of that move....

just ask her some of her favorite songs, find the tabs, print them out and help her learn them

I'd go with the Chili Pepper's "Soul to Squeeze". It's a fun bassline to play, makes you look really good, and it has an emotional feel to it.

Every girl loves Stand By Me and it's simple enough that you can probably sing along. Even if you can't sing worth a damn, give it a shot. Her eyes will light up.

Green Day+Pretty Sounding Bass= No One Knows. Seriously, its awsome, and wont take forever to learn. Also, T.B. Player's advice on how to teach works wonders :D

A thread hijack test has been scheduled for April 4, 2007 at 12:30....here it is....

Hey - Big "K"!!

How's that Ibby?

Have you had a chance to check out Bass Specialties yet? One of these days I'll get out there - we're going to Cape May in June, so I'll have to see if I'm able to take a detour...

This has been a test of the emergency hijack system. We now return you to "Teaching your Girlfriend to Play Bass"

To play for her learn the guitar part for under the bridge. Then learn cheesy themes, like Beverly Hills Cop and Hawaii Five-0, and Star Wars, and for sure, the star spangled banner that way it'll be funny and not so 'concerto for one'.
