I've taken the plunge and decided to sell it. It has a 3-tone sunburst finish. Rosewood fingerboard. Block inlay. Serial number 298XXX. Pots match dates for 1970. End-of-neck stamp is faded and unreadable. C neck. The finish is in near-perfect shape. I can't say it's perfect because there is a very small amount of paint chipping around the neck plate on the back and there is some very, very light swirling here and there. The original case looks like it was made yesterday; it's perfect. The bass is very playable and all original. Like my '71-72 Jazz, it spent most of its life in the case, in a closet. The original "ashtray" bridge and pickup covers are also included. They, too, are in great shape. NO TRADES--NO TRADES--NO TRADES.

Price Drop: $2950. I'll cover the shipping and insurance. CONUS only.

I believe all jazz basses have "A" necks

It says in the description that this one has a "C" neck. Must have been a special order or something.

Doesn't look 1 3/4" in the photos ... maybe he means C shaped?

It is definitely 1.5" or thereabouts at the nut.

Ok, I worded the whole "C neck" thing wrong. It has a Jazz neck, 1.5" at the nut, typical neck for the era. It has a "C" stamped onto the end of the neck's bottom. Maybe the C is insignificant? For the record, it HAS a normal Jazz neck. Sorry for the confusion. :)

HAPPY EASTER!!!

i know nothing about jazz basses. would the "C" have anything to do w/the headstock decal saying "custom body"?

The 3 bolt necks started in 1973.

Very nice bass! I already own a few from that era, otherwise I'd be PM'ing you right now :)

The 3-bolt neck was introoduced in '74 I believe. Mine is an early 74, and still has the 4-bolt.

That one is defenitely nice!

You know, for the high amount of basses that I sell/trade/buy, you'd think that I'd own a scale by now. :rollno: Maybe I'll pick a scale up in a day or two. IME, I'd say it is between 8 and 8.5 lbs.

Yes, the 3-bolt system began in late 74. A great resource for such minutiae is "The Fender Bass: An Illustrated History." It has pics of 74's with 3- and 4-bolt neck plates. It's an indispensable resource for those interested in buying older Fender basses.
