For sale: 1988 Fender Precision bass, sunburst, made in Japan. It's a great instrument, but I use my Reverends all the time, and a couple of recent expenses are forcing me to put the Fender on the block.
The bass is in great shape, with only one noticeable ding on the bottom edge (see photo.. it's not visible while you're playing.) The front and back of the bass are clean. There is also a grounding issue, but I'm having that fixed this week.
A couple of modifcations were done by Hambone: replaced the stock pickup with a Basslines Quarter Pounder, and made a small rout under the pickguard so you can adjust the truss rod without removing the neck.
The bass is strung with D'Addario Chromes, which have been on there for about 18 months. It sounds huge and plays great.
As many of you know, these MIJ Fenders are of great quality. This one is very well put-together.
I don't have a hard case for it, but I'll include a flimsy gig bag, and it'll be well packed.
I'm looking for $500, which includes shipping (continental U.S. only, please!) I prefer a USPS money order, but Paypal is OK, too. I'm not interested in any trades at this time.
PM me if interested, thanks!

If it's anything like my MIJ 80's Precision, it blows a lot of the American stuff out of the water!

Good luck with the sale!

JUMP ON THIS PEOPLE. The E-series is the next Squier JV or fullerton RI. They are going through the roof in price. People are starting to realize how awsome they are. I have this bass with a maple board and I can say without a doubt that it is the smoothest playing P that I have ever touched for less than 2k.

Question for the seller. The dating for the e serial #s goes from 83-88. How do you know what year yours is?

Good question! The previous owner (a fellow TBer) advertised it as an '88, so that's what I've always called it. Since you asked, I ran it through a couple of Web sites. According to Fender's site (http://www.fender.com/support/dating/fender_us_dating.php) serial numbers consisting of E8 + five digits were made in 1988 and 1989. On the other hand, according to www.guitardaterproject.org, my bass was "made at the Fuji-gen Plant (for Fender Japan), Japan in the Year(s): 1984 - 1987."
I'm sticking with '88..
