Was watching a bit of Jaco and some other random bassists on youtube. Can anyone suggest a site or somewhere I can go to learn some jazz/modal patterns or some cool sounding runs like the ones you usually see great bassists goofing around on.

start listening to lots of "jazz". start internalizing the music. Then start to transcribe those "licks" on your instrument

Tons of great material to learn ear training, scales, style and history of jazz.

Start studying Jazz Theory and learn your scales, arpeggios, and chord-scales relationships. Do that should get up into playing scales in intervals, sequences, and developing motifs. Do lots of listening to develeop the ear for the feel and sounds. Then transcribe the lines you like.

-Norm Stockton' "Grooving for Heaven" instructional DVD series

All of the books mentioned above include CD recordings of exercises and examples that are in the books. Also, as a TB'er stated earlier, listen, listen, listen, listen...............

A great way is to learn the heads (melodies) of bebop tunes on the bass. After all, they're "patterns" over the changes that have already proven themselves worthy!
