I'm building a Precision from parts, and I decided to go with an Antiquity II pickup.

I'm thinking about getting a set of Labella 760 FS strings to get a good thumpy, rich, in your face P bass sound (I have a few Jazz basses, so I think this would be a good sound variation).

However, my experience with the Labella Flats (I've used them on non-P basses in the past) is that they are pretty deep sounding. The Antiquity II's are supposed to be deep as well.

Would it be overkill to combine the two?

The project P bass is Alder body, maple neck.

Also, what color is the silk wrap on the 760 FS and on the 760 FL? (I know it's blue on the 760 FM) - just curious.

for a while I used a 77 P with ash body and maple neck with Antiquity II and Labella flats. Worked great for classic rock through my svt. I normally used and use rounds though.

I intend to go with the same setup(as soon as all of the parts come in). I ordered an Antiquity I, and a set of Labella 1954 Jamersons. I don't think you would have a problem. The strings don't sound as dead as you would think. They have a lot of punch.
