Nappa 04-16-2007, 08:54 PM First off, what kind of music do you plan on playing? chutsk10 04-16-2007, 08:57 PM here's a free add website... http://www.craigslist.org/about/cities.html its generally pretty good, find a listing for your area and look under muscians.... rockwarnick 04-16-2007, 09:23 PM do you have a myspace? i put myself on the myspace classifieds with info about my experience and what i want to play and i got LOTS and LOTS of responses. and you can pick the area you want too. Basshappi 04-16-2007, 10:07 PM Generally, music stores have bulletin boards where people/bands seeking musicians hang flyers. Many towns and cities have free local newspapers with music related classified ad sections. Check local high schools and colleges for these same things. AlphaMale 04-16-2007, 10:18 PM Thanks you guys helped a lot, I love this forum. And Just because, I'd want to play: Heavy Metal, Blues, Rap Metal, Hardcore, or Punk lowerclef 04-16-2007, 11:07 PM If you're in the LA area, you can also check the Recycler or Music Connection. Everyone's looking for a bassist for their band! Deacon_Blues 04-17-2007, 03:46 AM Instead of only trying to join a band, you could also try to form your own band. It's more work, but then you can more easily choose the music. dth101 04-17-2007, 03:58 AM have you tried nextcat.com? Check local high schools and colleges for these same things. we needed a keyboardist for a wedding band, no thrill, good coin etc. I was amazed that some stores didn't have a bulletin board. One salesman was shocked that I was amazed. He clearly stated that too many musicians would be hanging around too read the adds. I stated that it would be terrible if some guys met and formed a band and then needed to buy some gear. It would also be really bad to have bunch of musicians coming to a music store and perhaps he would be better off if painters were coming into the store. I never went back. Best of Luck, Wesley R. the_fonz 04-20-2007, 03:31 PM And Just because, I'd want to play: Heavy Metal, Blues, Rap Metal, Hardcore, or Punk i ****ing love that list of genres diversity is the key to success Rumblestiltzkin 04-23-2007, 03:40 AM What can I do online or off to find bands who need bassists in my area, I'm not really looking for anything that big. But yeah, how do I find bands who need bassists in my area? Yeah, me too. :) Too bad I can't find anything that seems interesting around here. Good luck. afinalfantasy 04-23-2007, 06:05 AM Ask around the local bands that you know if they know any bands looking for one, or try to start up one with people that you know AlphaMale 04-23-2007, 03:28 PM apparently Freelancing is hte way to go. AlphaMale 04-23-2007, 03:39 PM I just kinda maybe formed my own band on kinda like Accident by the way. Me and my friend tried to do a project before but we couldn't get anything done it was hard to do things with the drummer. Then recently the drummer told me that he was down. So I asked the guitarist "Are you down" And he's been recently listening to a lot of Malmsteen so he has low self-esteem, hahaha. So he was like "I can't play lead" And I'm like "Dude I'll teach you all the theory" and he was like "Dude, I just can't play lead". So I'm like "okay but you're down?" And he said he was. So then I needed to find a lead guitarist. So I ask my friend David, now he's all tabs but he's kinda good. He's pretty ignorant and close-minded. (He was the guy telling me I couldn't do pinch harmonics on a bass and then argued me down about it and when I proved him wrong he called me a dick). HE was like kinda down but then he said some things that kinda turned me off. He's like "I can't solo" and I'm like "well I'll teach you the theory and how to use scales so you can" And he was like "Okay but I probably won't use them" and then he told me to ask his friend Lloyd cause Lloyd is better./ so I talk to Lloyd and Lloyd has a car and he knows music theory and he can lead the band. So I'm like cool we have everything but a singer. And then I talk to the drummer and he's like "I'm not gonna play metal, only hardcore punk" so I'm like okay then whatever I know a guy Chris who's probably better and he's really down and really wants to be serious. So yeah if we get the drummer which we probably will it's gonna own. |
