I am building one of my single cuts and the customer sent me a chunk of ebony and wants a tail piece and bridge for the bass made from it. I haven't got much room behind the spot where the bridge needs to be. So give me your ideas. I want to do seperate bridge and tailpiece with a floating bridge. Thanks looking forward to seeing what you all come up with. Also and links to ones that have been made are cool to. Thanks again....tom

personally, I have always loved the veillette design.

This could be easily 'adapted' to a 2 piece design while leaving the tailpiece similar to veillette's.

Oh wow.
That would be an awesome fun project to do some decorative carving. Build that bridge, with plenty of excess wood around it, and then just start carving some intricate designs or shapes. I'd have so much fun with that! Like, maybe some viking runes around the outside, or a gothic catholic cathedral stonework design, or roses or vines growing outward.... hot rod flames!

could carve out your design similar to the ones used in the guitar tune-o-matics... but in ebony?
steel mountings, the rest of it in ebony.

I did a bass similar to that. The ebony was acrylized. One time the bass dropped to the floor and fell face down on carpet. The bridge snapped in half. This design may not be optimal for a wooden bridge. btw, I was using those brass bushings for adjustable height.
