Any issues I should know about when combining these two features?

cut your nut slot a bit wider on the sides, but leave it with the string radius at the bottom. This will allow much smoother de-re-tuning.

Thanks Wilser. Would premature wear of the zero fret be a problem or does the string not move enough when de-re tuned.

you'll get loads of confused comments about combining a high quality feature like the Hipshot de-tuner with a "low quality" feature like a zero-fret, and multitudes of the uninformed will question your building and set-up skills because of it
just goes to prove that Wish is far superior in craftsmanship than Mike Tobias, eh?

the conventional wisdom is that a fret is harder wearing than a nut, so i dont think you'll have any wear problems if people with nutted basses dont complain about nut wear.

I always looked at a zero fret as a high quality feature.

bless you, son, for you are amongst the enlightened few :bassist:
just take a read thru the Basses forum here and see what percentage of the posters there hold firmly to a zero fret only being used on shoddy construction basses ... it's just stipifying!
