VIEW FULL LIVE VERSION : Amusing fantasy band line ups

Steve Barclay
04-21-2007, 07:55 AM
Just for a silly idea, a friend and I started thinking about imaginary band line ups where all the members share a common trait, other than musical. For example, here's one I thought of called "The Happys", as although I admire all these guys very much, they all have a reputation for being somewhat cantankerous:-

Vocals - Van Morrison
Bass - Roger Waters
Rhythm Guitar, Vocals - Ray Davies
Lead Guitar - George Harrison
Keyboards - Alan Price
Drums - Ginger Baker

I doubt these guys would have ever got through one rehearsal without killing each other! So has anyone else got any ideas for other line ups? Good examples would be all the members having terrible hairdo's or dress sense, etc. The musicians can be from any era, alive or deceased.

Here's a band for you:

Robert Smith-guitar/vocals
sting-bass vocals/
and a DRUM MACHINE.

that would be the gloomiest/ happiest sounding band...

I've always wanted john frusciante to join up with the john mayer trio. Thatd be amazing.

for "The Happys" maybe throw in Robert Fripp and Jeff Berlin

The band I'd most like to hear:

Bass - Jaco
Drums - Dave Weckl
Guitar - John McLaughlin
Piano - Chick Corea
Sax - Michael Brecker
Sax - Wayne Shorter
Violin - Jean-Luc Ponty

Sort of a fusion of the Elektric Band, Weather Report, and Mahavishnu Orchestra, with Brecker thrown in... because.

Lead Guitar - John Mclaughlin

04-21-2007, 03:10 PM
vocals - Mike Patton & Jimmy Urine
Bass - Frank Bello
Guitar - Fredrik Thordenal and Dave Felton
Drums - Brann Dailor

they would have no idea what the hell to do in that situation. nothing would ever get done, but i would love it

Ampeg SVT
04-21-2007, 03:16 PM
Vocals/Guitar-Kurt Cobain
Lead guitar-Eddie Van Halen
Bass-Larry Graham
Drums-Taylor Hawkins

This is a band that would be..."conflicting" since EVH would have to play the bass when recording and Larry Graham would be confined to root notes...

made this a while ago on a forum on a different website.

i was pretty bored so i linked all the musicians to videos (or music in the case of bj cole) that is really worth checking out

robert fripp (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klnog_IKzTM&mode=related&search=)- guitar and loops
steve lawson (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=76rs7PmoAbY)- bass and loops
bj cole (http://www.myspace.com/bjcolemusic) - pedal steel guitar and vocals (listen to the grey box on the left)
neil peart (http://youtube.com/watch?v=uIPAXNGq7HE) - drums
Jens Johansson (http://youtube.com/watch?v=RcdDK8fl8pM) - keyboards

and maybe swap out fripp for ned evett (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KjiF4DtDyyA) on fretless guitar

The band I'd most like to hear:

Bass - Jaco
Drums - Dave Weckl

Piano - Chick Corea
Sax - Michael Brecker
Sax - Wayne Shorter
Violin - Jean-Luc Ponty

Sort of a fusion of the Elektric Band, Weather Report, and Mahavishnu Orchestra, with Brecker thrown in... because.

Thats not to far from the line up on Jaco's 1st disc and the Word of Mouth bands in there smaller configurations. Although Jaco and McLaughlin never actually recorded together, they did play in a trio for a short time. Is that the violinist from Mahavishnu? Also, I don't think Jaco and Dave ever played togther or did they?

Hmm.

my "experimental rock" lineup

Gavin Hayes (dredg) - vocals
Omar Rodriguez-Lopez (TMV) - guitar
Jesse Keeler (Death from Above 1979) - Bass
Zach Hill (Hella) - drums

Kept it simple becuase of all the noise that would be happening. Really all I want to hear is Omar and Zach together but having someone like Gavin singing would make it even better. Jesse thrown in to have a simplistic balance between the insanity of Zach and Omar.

Yeah guys, the goal of this thread was to create FUNNY lineups.

Silver Hammer
04-21-2007, 11:56 PM
Vocals- Ozzy Osbourne
Bass- Dee Dee Ramone
Guitar- Jimi Hendrix
Drums- Tyrone Biggums

The name- the Junky Bunch. Shows pretty much consist of Jimi soloing while Dee Dee hits his bass repeatedly. Tyrone is only in the band because he hides his crack rocks in the kick drum any actual percussion is purely accidental. Ozzy has one long vocal that lasts the entire show- him mumbling to Jimi to detune so he can sing in tune with the song.

OK, just for comedy value:

Gwen Stefani - Vocals
Pete Doherty - Lead guitar
Steve Vai - Rhythm guitar
Matt Wong - Bass
Chad Smith - Drums

Imagine it - the odd poppy vocals of Gwen, over the crunchy 2 note riffs of Pete, supported by the virtuoso chords of Steve, underpinned by a funk/ska rhythm section. Wicked.

OK here's my second funniest band lineup.

Michael Angelo Batio - Guitar
Bill "Buddha" Dickens - Bass

I don't know if this would make me laugh or cry.

This would be an unlikely combination :-

Pavarotti (vocals)
Buddy Holly (rhythm guitar)
Jimi Hendrix (Lead guitar)
Stanley Clarke (Bass)
Ginger Baker (Drums)

Maybe throw in Adolph Hitler on comb and paper and
Henry Kissinger on washboard

The Egos.

Steve Vai, Rhythm Guitar
Pat Martino, Lead Guitar
Art Tatum, Synth
Charles Mingus, Bass
Buddy Rich, Drums

That way, by the end of the first rehearsal, you'd have a dead drummer, an arrested bassist, a synth with burnt keys, and steve vai crying in the corner.

seeing keith all drugged out and stumbling around in such an intimate atmosphere would be hilarious.

John Lennon- Guitar/Vocals
Charles Manson- Guitar/Vocals
Fieldy- Bass
Peter Criss- Drums (original drummer for Kiss in full make up)

What they have in common? They all put on a show. Just picture it though. Criss slamming the skins while Fieldy thumps on his downtuned sideways bass. John singing about peace while Charles rolls his eyes. Charles singing about killing people and John rolling his eyes. I'd go see it.

Harumph! Clearly, you don't know Neil Peart! *Snob snob snob snob snob*.

Really, though, he's a nice guy - aware of his self worth, but very humble, very polite, and gets pretty uncomfortable when people sing him praises.

David Lee Roth, though - You've got quite a handful. Oh, and Tom Delonge, what I wouldn't give to strangle that little bastard. Angels and Airwaves would be a good band if it weren't for his "I Enunciate Every Syllable) vocals.

I think we have a winner, that imagery is hilarious!

Here's my lineup:

Chris Walla (Death Cab for Cutie) lead guitar/composition
Jon Fishman (Phish) drums
Sting on bass
Norah Jones on piano and backup vocals
And the lead singer? Phil Anselmo of Pantera

Imagine it: Chris writing these sad but pretty tunes, Fishman playing overly complicated fluttery stuff on the kit, Sting thumping away and getting pissed off because he's not the front man (or primary creative force), Norah singing away, doing her thing, and all the while Phil's screaming and yelling at the crowd, throwing cups of beer to the people in the balcony.

I'd make a superhero/tv-show band!

Bass - The Comicbook Guy from the Simpsons - he just fits the bassplayer stereotypes so damn well.
Guitar - John Petrucci. He is a superhero!
Guitar - Batman! He is cool. Batman with an ESP SV. Hell yeah!
Drums - Hello Kitty. She'd go nuts behind that drumset man! Imagine the heavy double bass.
Vocals - Tough one. Though I think I'd end up with TinTin. You know that guy from the french TV-show when we were kids? Him with a Muse-like voice. Awesome!

Half of the old Coheed & Cambria Mic Todd and Josh Eppard
I'd try a bit of Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth on some dual vocals with Joey Eppard of Three, both of them also sharing the guitar duties.
I dunno if I'd go for some keys but maybe Bob Katsionis from Firewind.
This line-up goes from upstate New York to Sweden to Greece so it's varied
