Here are 3 directions I am still tinkering with. They are drawn 36" scale but I will most likely change that to 34". I have to say, I'm in awe of some of the creativity on this board. It's not as easy as you make it look.

Good Start! ;)

#3 will probably be the most balanced. Neck dive is certain with #1 since the top horn is so short. I also note that the scale length is changing between these basses. You might want to decide on the features first and design to fit. That way when you are routing you have room for everything.

I would question the need for so many control knobs. Probably only need a maximum of 6 and 2 switch's if you do everything with a separate knob or switch. Unless you plan on a dual preamp. Do I see 3 PU's? Two J's an one MM? Or is that a custom bridge.

I would suggest listing the hardware for the group to review, so we understand your intentions.

Overall very cool looking designs though.

I'm in the design phase of all this and am changing the upper horn on the first one so it will be more balanced. After I make all my adjustments to the designs I plan on cutting them out on some craftboard so I can see how they feel.

The electronics setup is something I have wanted to try for awhile. Yes 3 pups, wired as 2 independent circuits.( I know way overboard but that's the way I am, just ask my girlfriend lol)

The first is the bridge pup which will be a emg 35tw Single/Dual Coil Switchable Humbucker wired to a push pull volume pot, emg-bqc-control (concentric bass and treble, concentric mid-control) and a emg-exb.

The second is a emg j set with the same setup as the first but with a fade control as well.

One toggle switch is a phase inverter for the jazz pups, the other 2 are on off switches for the batteries. I'm debating on whether to send both circuits out a stereo jack the build a box to split the signals or if I want to get real creative and design a control board that could have volume pedals and larger battery circuits then feed it all with a custom made multi pin cable.

As for the rest of it;

Bridge - Kahler tremolo 7410
Tuners - not sure
Body- Figured walnut top and back, curly maple core, koa accents.
Neck - 5 piece laminated, same woods as body

Some will call me crazy, and they will be correct ;)

Alright, I have taken the first design and modified it a bit. I decided to stay with a 36" scale and stretched the body so it will balance better. I think this will be my final design. Thanks to pixelpounder for the advice here and everyone else for sharing the knowledge you have worked so hard to aquire.

I'd check the pot spacing versus available pot body sizes.

Also your E and G tuner keys appear to be projecting from the centers of the tuner posts, and the D and A tuners may have their body corners overlapping.

Looks good, but that lower horn looks kind of strange.

One good thing is that your guitar player will have to stay away or you will take his eyes off with that pointy headstock :p

knobs much?
Just in case you happen to cover every possible genre of music in the one 3 minute song. LOL
