I bought this from 3rdbass, here's his thread:
http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=315884

and his details:
CAR 20th Anniversary (2002) Squier Body
AllParts maple on maple Jazz neck, bound & blocked, vintage reverse tuners, Fender decal
SD quarter pounder pups
BadAss II bridge
Pearl pickguard
All gold hardware
FAT tone, sweeet neck, VG cond.
Molded Fender HSC fair cond.
$475+shipping; PayPal or postal money order shipped to lower 48

WEIGHT: she's a feather at 8.5 lbs!!!
TONE: His description does not note how very raucous Duncan Basslines pickups are! They bark and grind like no one's business; thus the dilemma for me. This axe is very much more Chris Squier, Geddy Lee, or Enywhistle than Jamerson, Dunn or Babbitt...

That just ain't my tone boys...

Some of his pics:

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k229/komual/FnF1.jpg
http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k229/komual/FnF3.jpg

Here's what happened on my end:
Replaced the junky, noisy squier pots with a ButchBuilt vvt wiring harness. Used StewMac shilelding paint in the cavities, copper tape on the p/g, gave it a thorough set-up.
It plays damn nice, it looks pretty dang good, but here's the thing:
It's just too mean for me. Those SD pickups are bark/grind/mid heavy. Yeah, it's got bottom end, sure...If you wanna rawwwwk, hard, tear this thing up! It's a killing machine in that regard...which ain't my bag, baby! If it's yers, you're gonna love this thing!
The neck is kewl: bound and blocked, J width, nearly P depth: real fine.
It's light, the CAR paint and pearloid guard are a great combo, and the hardware is all top flight.
It just don't fit my jazz/blues/r&b gigs: it rips!
I've got plenty of "tamer basses" in my toolkit.

Can't think of any trades I'm interested in, but you can try.
Comes with a working Fender hard plastic case that has the retaining strap busted like they all do, but all the latches work. Just "doesn't stay propped open" on it's own.

$425+ the ride, I prefer not to use paypal: cashier's check, money order, wait for it to clear-you know the drill.
I spent some fair coin on the pots and wiring harness from Butch, and the shielding materials, and my time getting her set up and playin' real fine, so I'm eating it ths price:

I could use a power amp like a qsc plx 1602 or something similar...

You couldn't put it together for anywhere near this pricetag buying all the bits seperately!

Some pm q's that were good answered here in thread fo y'all:

weight 8.5, she's a feather...
sound: think Chris Squire, Geddy Lee, Entwhistle.
I'm more of a Jmaerson kinda guy.

thanks for you interest; alan

How much does the bass weigh?

Are there any familiar recordings that I might associate with the "too mean" tone of this bass?

Chef took what was my #1 KILLER rocker/ beater and upgraded & tweaked it to perfection. Now he's taking a bath on his asking price. Morals & ethics aside, I just might buy it back 'cause I KNOW what it's worth! Believe me, the sum of the parts is WAY more than the pieces....and the pieces ain't too shabby...........BUMPO.

It's mind boggling on how this is still here. I wish someone would buy my Ibby, cause I'd hop all over this thing.

As I think about this bass more and more, I've realized that I'd LOVE to take you up on that trade deal, Chef, but my wife would kill me if I brought home another bass! :( She already refers to my Stingray as my mistress... Haha!

If you're still interested in my cab when this beautiful bass sells, let me know! :)

Chef, did anyone ever figure out whether the body is alder or basswood? (I'm getting GAS-eous over here.)

Chef
04-30-2007, 06:47 PM
Greg; no idea what kind of wood it is.
Kinda hard to tell with all the glorious candy apple red paint on it!
It's light, resonant, and sustains well tho.

Tbirdbassist
04-30-2007, 07:00 PM
I think the body is more than likely Agathis (cousin of Mahogany, hence good sustain). Never seen any Squire P's with basswood. My Ibanez GSR190 fretless is Agathis and sustains for days, is light and resonates well. The Badasss bridge I have on it does even more wonders...

put some Lindy Fralins in here and you're ready to go!

GregC
05-01-2007, 11:53 AM
Thanks for the info on the body, guys. I'm going to "J" my trusty old Ibanez P-bass copy, it needs more playing time.

I like Fralins a lot, but I'd keep the QPs on this bad boy--a pimped-out bass should have a pimped-out sound, IMO.:bassist:

Bump for a good deal.
