The bass is in AWESOME shape (9.5 out of 10). No buckle rash, etc. I'm really going to nitt-pick here so here it goes. The only marks on it is a slight nick in the walnut (1/8" x 1/32") in between the pickups and there was a little gouge on the inside of the upper horn that has been professionally repaired by local famed luthier John Thurston former owner and master luthier of KT Guitars (made guitars and basses in the 70's and 80's that gave any Alembic a good run for thier money). You really can hardly tell that there was a gouge there unless you REALLY, REALLY look for it and it was not big at all to begin with (I am just very anal about my basses).
One of the pickup covers has a few light marks on it from when I occasionally use a pick but I had Bud LeCompte make me a new one that I've just been holding (it's never been installed).
Again, I'm REALLY nitt-picking here as the bass is a solid 9.5 out of 10, but make sure that I always disclose all. It plays like a DREAM. Super low action, NO fret buzz, the bart soapbars and pre-amp are amazing. Bud REALLY took his time on this bass and it shows. Yes, it's that nice. As good as ANY boutique bass I've seen or played. I currently have Ken Smith Bass Burners on it (nickle rounds) that seem to suite the bass very well.
The bass has a slightly darker in finish in person. Bud took the first several pics below in high-natural light. The last picture is what the bass looks most like in terms of finish color in most lighting conditions. A steal @ $1500 (it would cost you A LOT more to have one built now)... UPDATE: Make me a REASONABLE offer!

AmazingGracePlayer 04-29-2007, 08:47 PM I'll trade you a poptart and yogurt for it!
That's is one nice looking bass man! Good luck!
Robear22 04-29-2007, 09:02 PM No Quad!!!!!! Say it ain't sooooooooo!!!!!!
Ray Salamon 04-29-2007, 09:11 PM Neat. I want it, in a not-so-GASy way too.
FL Knifemaker 04-29-2007, 09:47 PM The fit, finish and attention to detail on Buds basses are second to none. The fretboard and playability of mine is pure heaven. If you ever see my Black/Pinstriped STSS-5 for sale, call the cops, someone has either stolen it or has a gun to my head  Don't let Quads feedback rating fool you, he's pretty good to deal with :D
Quadzilla 04-29-2007, 10:06 PM Thank you Knife! Now the rest of you, better get this quick before I change my mind (again ;) )! :D
Quadzilla 04-30-2007, 08:32 AM Guys puuulease don't make me Ebay this bass. It's FAR too nice for the masses and truly deserves to stay here. If you make me a REASONABLE offer, I'll consider it.
man, that is a great looking bass. if i wasnt trying to save in the hopes of 'the right' fretless would show up, this would have me pretty tempted. (and its damn hard to hold out when so many cool basses keep showing up for sale here!)
im curious though, what does that bass sound like and what is that neck like? i've never heard of ash being used on a neck.
Quadzilla 04-30-2007, 10:08 PM The bass sounds amazing. The combo of the big Bart soapbars and the Aguilar pre is it! I had a Bart pre in it before, but I had Bud (LeCompte) replace it with an Aguilar and what a difference. More definition. The Bart pre was almost muddy compared with the Aggie pre.
As for the neck. Man, it feels sooo solid. The vibrations jsut resonate through the neck and body so strongly. All I can say is, it works! I've heald on to this bass longer than any other in recent years because of all of this. This has beat many Zons, Pedullas and others that have passed through my hands. I just feel like I need a change and am FINALLY ready to let this one go (and it's VERY hard for me to do).
I hope you won't regret it.
I will never let my Lecompte go!!
Never
Eli_Upright12 04-30-2007, 11:12 PM That is just a stellar looking bass, lots of touches that you wouldnt get on other basses, I really like the pickup covers and the false pickguard. Its a pleasure just looking at it.
Anthbass 04-30-2007, 11:45 PM Argh. That is effen killer. Stupid grad studies...
thanks for the info. man, that does sound like it must be damn nice. and such a great looking bass too. (focus, ugo...keep saving/waiting for that right pentabuzz...look away...)
budman 05-01-2007, 07:42 AM You should put under the bed or in the back of the closet and forget about it. It's SN#6 for crying out loud. Pull it out in 10 years and we'll all reminicse. ;)
Quadzilla 05-01-2007, 07:52 AM I just may do that Bud. LOVE the LeCompte (and I do mean love it). I just bought an F-Bass BN5. It's going to be tuff to try to keep both financially. :crying: Maybe I'll dump a couple of my other basses here or on Evil Bay (typically get top $ on Evil Bay) in an attempt to keep this and the F-Bass. I'll leave this up for now...
psylocubik 05-01-2007, 08:56 AM Out of curiosity, what is the fingerboard radius? It looks flat in some pictures and slightly radiused in others.
Good lookin' axe, man.
Quadzilla 05-01-2007, 09:22 AM Hmmm, I don't recall the radius. Maybe Bud can chime in. It's fairly flat...
Quadzilla 05-02-2007, 08:58 PM Bump or "make me a reasonable offer" plea. All I ask is that you don't totally low ball me. You can also run trades past me...
Quadzilla 05-03-2007, 02:15 PM Bump before Flea Bay!
NickyBass 05-03-2007, 02:23 PM Stop the insanity!!!!
If you can drive up to me, I will buy it from you. When you come to your senses ;) you can buy it back. I can probably hold it for 2 months or so. Interested??

Where in Jersey? I can get to the line (I-95) in about an hour and a half? There is a rest stop near Wilmington, DE which is right at about the Jersey line. PM me and we may be able to make this happen tomorrow or over the weekend man!
arbitrary 05-03-2007, 02:50 PM I'm curious what this bass sounds like. Do you have any soundclips of this bass. I'm damned curious and tempted.
Bassic83 05-03-2007, 03:32 PM I absolutely LOVED playing that bass! Ask Bud or his wife- I couldn't put the darn thing down! If I had dough, I'd be all over this one like white on rice! Sounded awesome too!

I used to have some MP3s that we did as a band a while back (live). I'll try to dig them up. The fretboard sounds a lot like a ebony board, maybe a hair brighter. the pickups are growly and just a little dark (as most Bart soapbars are).
The Aggie pre is clear and bright and lets the true pickup sound come thru a lot more than the orginal Bart pre did (the Bart pre was too colored IMHO and colored the tone too much). The Aggie pre really opened the bass up!
Bassic83 05-03-2007, 04:18 PM I played it with the Bart pre in it. I think I played it a couple days before it shipped. I didn't recall it being that dark sounding...but I'll defer to you on the Aggie pre. It is a super-sweet bass, though.
arbitrary 05-03-2007, 06:10 PM Hey there I'll get back to you tonight about it.
I'm curious about the neck profile; whats it like?
Also do you still have the bart pre that was orig. in it?

It was not dark with the Bart pre, just darker than it is now. As for neck profile, it's just a hair thicker front to back than my F-Bass BN5. It's a medium sized 5 neck. Not real fat, not super thin. It's good and fast with a satin finish. It was thicker and a bit boxier when I first got it, but I sent it back to Bud and had him knock of the corners to round it more and also had him made it a hair thinner front to back. It's a lot faster an better this way.
Bud was very carefull to check to make sure there was enough material on the neck to do this and there was plenty according to him. He said that he could have even taken more off, but was conservative and played it safe. Feels great now anyway.
As for the Bart pre, I sold it a while back. I don't think I mentioned that I actually sent the bass back to Bud for him to install the Aggie pre in it. I wanted it done right and neat like he did the Bart originally and that's exactly what he did. I also had him make me up an extra wood pickup cover at that time.
NickyBass 05-03-2007, 08:16 PM This bass will be back in Quad's hands soon. It is in his destiny.

I suspect that this is so! ;)
