Hi all,

Just bought some home studio equipment:

- TC Electronic Konnekt 8 (Firewire)
- M-Audio Keystation 61es midi keyboard

I bought these not really checking out all the different alternatives available, but it feels I bought some good pieces of equipment anyway... Still, does anyone have any experience about these? Good or bad...

I tried to record some stuff in Cubase LE that followed, and I was blown away by the sound quality the Konnekt provides, especially the preamps! :hyper: The vocals and my classical guitar sounded really good even through a dynamic microphone (Shure Beta58), and the bass sounded great too just being plugged straight into the Konnekt.

I have almost no experience with recording, so I don't really have much to compare with, but I still think I will be able to pull out some nice demos with these... :hyper:


Maybe this post is a bit irrelevant, but I have wanted to get something like this for over a year now, and I'm just so happy finally getting it! :)

Well one more question:
Does anyone have any suggestions on active studio monitors? Preferably under 500 € per pair... I like a strong and clear midrange that cuts through.

If you can upgrade from the cubase LE, do so ASAP. As a user of it (since it came free with my mixer, and it's all I could afford) trust me, it is rather unstable. I've talked to my band director, agreed with me, and mentioned that cakewalk's sonar is a lot more stable than anything steinberg puts out.

Thanks for your input. Maybe I'll check out cakewalk later, but I'll see what I can do in Cubase LE first. On my previous computer with a Soundblaster Live! soundcard :hiding: (terrible one :spit: ), I used cakewalk and always liked it so maybe I should try it again.

I just did for testing purposes a kind of a groovy disco song (if a 16 bar loop can be called a "song" :eyebrow: ) with 6 audio channels, and four of them were bass channels actually: Bass line, 2-note chords, a small repeatative line with harmonics and a simple melody on fretless. I also added with some effects and/or eq's to all tracks. All bass tracks were recorded with the bass straight into the Konnekt. The two guitar (Stratocaster) tracks were recorded through my Hughes&Kettner Tubeman. Everything sounded really great! :hyper: That includes also the drum tracks with the 909 drum sounds that came with the Konnekt.

I did a test recording the bass with my Yamaha BBT500H head too, but there was a clear hiss present except when I suppressed the treble frequencies...

Does anyone have any experience with the Konnekt 8 or 24D in comparison to other similar firewire devices? *Just curious* :cool:
