So a friend of mine and I have been recording some new music. It is quite a departure for both of us. My friends and family really don't get it. I've been playing for 18 years, and I'm not sure I get it. We're having fun, though.

I used my Warrior Signature 4 Neck-Through direct into the board. No preamp, just straight in.

For those who have responded, I have added some new tunes to the list. For those who are just checking it out, feel free to respond.

These versions were recorded live with bass, drums, and guitar/keys. With guitar/keys added after. There are strings in one song (and in another song that isn't finished yet). These are versions for us to "live with" for a while and see what we want to do differently (if anything) with the songs.

We used 4 different drummers, all on the same set (they all brought their own cymbals), with the same mic placement. It is interesting to hear how different the set sounds with different guys on it.

funky! I really enjoyed it. It was just the amount of irregularity to still be very entertaining but have a experimental nature. great work! tone is pretty solid too! all around A+

I think you summed it up very well. It is definitely a new and strange direction for both of us. It was really fun playing with different drummers as well.

Reminds me of Zappa material; or even Steve Vai's "Flex-Able".

Reminds me of Zappa material.

Interesting. I never thought of it that way. I've never really cared much for Zappa . . . or maybe I do, and just don't realize it.

I had thought of it as having a touch of Medeski, Martin, & Wood (plus Scofield) mixed with some Bad Plus, but not as jazzy.

or even Steve Vai's "Flex-Able".

High praise indeed! I dig it!

Wow, you're right. That is high praise. I had a friend tell me that the guitarist reminded him of Scofield. I can't tell the guitarist that he drew comparisons to Scofield and Vai. We won't get his head through the door. Actually he is a really humble guy. The kid of guy who, when you tell him his playing sounds awesome, he says, "I was just feeding off of that cool stuff you were playing!"

The tone is my Warrior Signature 4 Neck Through straight into the board. Pickups dead in the middle, and EQ flat. This bass has tone in spades!!!!

The music sounds great! …I get it. What I don't get is how the bugs have influenced it:eyebrow:

I have no idea. The guitarist (arranger/producer/engineer) is a wildly creative and funny guy, and he just ran with it. It started with the first song "Chrysalis". He thought that was a good name to describe the song, and it went from there.

Thanks man. He's a musical genius. Seriously, the guy can do anything he wants. On any instrument he wants. And he has an incredible voice. I hate him!!!:D :D

Here is an update (http://www.talawanda.net/StaffWeb/RhotonC/classroom/page12/page12.html). I put a new song (Cambrian Anomaly) on the page. I think it turned out very nicely. Jay brought in a violin, viola, and cello and put a killer string part at the end. There is also a sax solo on Insecta Trifecta now.

Slow Weevil is the shiznit!! I totally get the music! I have a lot of thoughts on what I heard but basically, if it's not a BASS project per se, I would have played a bit less (or mixed it more in the mix) but that's just me. Excellent playing though.

I don't know if I'd call it a bass project. Every song was built around the bassline, however. The project started with me sending my buddy some grooves that I had come up with over a couple of months. He emailed back and said "we have enough for an album." So maybe it is a bass project. There are a couple of parts (now that I listen to them) that sound like they are a little busy. I guess it was my youth jumping back on board.
