He's much more adventurous, more musically talented, and just more fun to listen to. Hoppus has only one thing over him: he can sing. I don't really think either one is particularly great, but I do enjoy listening to them. ------------------ "We told you before, but you didn't hear us then. So, you still question why! You didn't listen again!" -Rush Dave Siff 07-20-2000, 08:30 AM
quote:
Originally posted by JLeeFJ: Hoppus has only one thing over him: he can sing.

Listen to the Green Day records.. Dirnt can sing. Not lead, but he does great backup harmonies. I love his playing too.. simple, solid, and melodic. SLiGhTLy_STooPiD 07-20-2000, 05:23 PM Dirnt cuz his bass lines are more complicated than "2-2-2-2-0-0-0-0". And I dont like Blink 182 anyway. dancehallclasher 07-22-2000, 06:55 PM dirnt any day. when i come around! longview! no contest. Dave Castelo 07-24-2000, 03:06 AM Mike is the best!! and live is awesome too and so fun to play along cd´s. FleaisGod 07-27-2000, 11:54 AM Hey, I like Blink, but mark is not exactly what i would consider a great bassist. unless you consider pumping 8th notes great of course. Don't get me wrong, it fits the music, but its not great. -woody tyson 01-09-2003, 05:30 PM Mark would never call himself a good bassists. So you have to go with Mike. They're both fun though. PollyBass 01-09-2003, 05:38 PM Gee, it's freaking dejevu. seems like this has been asked, i don't know, about a MILLION times. But mike. he's good. real good. freaking fan tastic. But mike. he's good. real good. freaking fan tastic. I was thinking the same thing...there really is not contest considering that Mark does not have much to show in the bass department. The most you can say is that he's a singer who plays bass. CaracasBass 01-09-2003, 06:58 PM I see in my crystal ball that this thread is not going to last too much........ Dirnt, by the way!!:D  cassanova 01-09-2003, 07:44 PM Originally posted by PollyBass Gee, it's freaking dejevu. seems like this has been asked, i don't know, about a MILLION times. This one will be closed at they very 1st insult to either bassist, so consider it you're only warning. Kudos, tyson. By the way, Dirnt is much fun to listen to, as he actually is aware that there is such things as passing notes, plus longview is just cool. Bob Clayton 01-10-2003, 11:23 AM mike is better...end of story bp13 mykeindk 01-10-2003, 11:44 AM I dislike both bass players mark has those unreal bass solos  i say you go to your local dealer and play with as many bass's, your intrested in then find the one you like and buy it. lemonadeisgood 01-10-2003, 03:13 PM Originally posted by mykeindk i say you go to your local dealer and play with as many bass's, your intrested in then find the one you like and buy it. Hey cass, don't close the thread based on this post, seeing as how he really doesnt know what he's talking about.... no really, i mean, he thought it was a bass buying thread... i don't mean any disrespect. luisnovelo 01-10-2003, 03:20 PM Geez! this thread really IS old! OK, If I had to eat either one of those, I'd pick Mike DIrnt. But that's just semantics, I agree with you. Green Day isn't my favorite band, but I've seen 'em live and they're damn good players, extremely tight. I genuinely enjoy Mike's bass lines. cassanova 01-10-2003, 03:43 PM Originally posted by PollyBass My warning? or other peoples? oh, i got ya. yeah, it makes sense. no polly, I was agreeing with you that this topic has been brought up alot. Matt Till 01-11-2003, 01:12 AM Originally posted by luisnovelo OK, If I had to eat either one of those, I'd pick Mike DIrnt. Personally, I think Mike Dirnt is a terrible choice of bassists to eat... take mark hoppus nothing really good ever came of him. Mike's pretty awesome as far as pop punk goes he kicks the ass. Don't eat him... please. Matt Till 01-11-2003, 01:13 AM BTW: This thread is really old. Dirnt, hands down Matt Till 01-14-2003, 06:10 PM Before anyone makes the important choice of Dirnt vs. Hoppus. Here's my opinion. Both suit their bands well. dancehallclasher 01-14-2003, 08:01 PM terry, perhaps you were unaware of it, but the cliche question on guitar boards is hendrix vs. stevie ray vaughan. i was simply informing you that you asked the wrong question. Squnk 01-14-2003, 08:21 PM I agree both bassist fit their bands well, and you can't always judge the talent of a bassist just by his song! andy_beckett 01-14-2003, 08:38 PM Originally posted by dancehallclasher terry, perhaps you were unaware of it, but the cliche question on guitar boards is hendrix vs. stevie ray vaughan. hendrix:D dancehallclasher 01-14-2003, 09:00 PM Originally posted by andy_beckett hendrix:D obviously. but let's not go there. ;) Guss 01-14-2003, 09:26 PM Originally posted by dancehallclasher terry, perhaps you were unaware of it, but the cliche question on guitar boards is hendrix vs. stevie ray vaughan. i was simply informing you that you asked the wrong question. Err... wait this isn't a guitar board. But yeah, Hoppus vs. Dirnt is like... Fieldy vs. P-Nut It's obvious which one is more talented, but they both play what the band calls for... except one of them play what the band calls for better. :D tehuberc 06-12-2008, 02:15 PM Mike Dirnt as a bassist and Mark Hoppus as a singer.
