I am happy with the way the woods compliment each other - originally we were talking about using buckeye for the top but i am so glad we went for figured walnut in the end

All those woods look amazing with each other.
Brilliant job.
Not to hijack the thread...but where do you buy your woods from. I'm from North Wales and can't seem to find much in the way of Luthierie woods except grade bookmatched tops.

I dont mind the hijack - all the woods for this bass came from larry davis at www.galleryhardwoods.com - the postage sucks but its still worth it for wood like this and larry's prices are very reasonable.

David dyke is also worth giving a ring, he has a basic webpage at www.luthierssupplies.co.uk.

craft supplies in buxton used to be good but i havnt been in a while because supplies are erratic.

If you are after simple, basic woods that make good guitars rather than this fancy pants stuff you can get good deals at local timber yards

These are worth checking out:
http://www.slhardwoods.co.uk/looseboards.asp
although its a 3 metre minimum order (1 metre x 50mm x 200mm is enough for one body blank). they have ash, cherry, idigbo (korina), mahogany, maple, sapelle, ziracote, walnut and wenge. I would buy body wood from sources like this but i would not order neck wood unless i got chance to inspect it first

The bass was picked up on saturday:

And i recieved this email in sunday:

Hi Wez

First of all thanks again the bass is fantastic practically plays
itself.

i think you managed to get everything spot on. Firstly the weight of
the
bass is almost nothing with a thick strap and the balance is perfect.
The
bass also stays in tune almost imaculately, which will be good on the
road.
The feel of the neck is cool as wel,the gloss isnt too thick and after
playing for a long time retains its feel and if anything gets easier to
play.

This thing sustains forever, i think sonically the bass gives off a
really
rich midrange, plenty of mwah and quite growly when you dig in. the
pickup
even in passive mode gives gets you tons of tonal differences. with the
electronics im yet to find an unusable sound. i think the trick is a
little
is a lot even with a small turn of the controls you can get loads of
variety.

Still looking for flaws...... think i might be looking a long time ha
ha

take it easy

Ricky

That made my day!!
