So i want all the expert advice i can get, i'm making a P-bass with one dark star pickup in the middle from Warmoth.

Are these materials good? I'm picking Mahgoany body and maple neck

Body- Maghogany with Silver Glo and back router. No pickguard.
Masked Binding
Neck - Maple 21 frets ( i was thinking 24 but i dont think it would look good nor useful :x )
Fingerboard- Ebony or Rosewood.
Nut- Graphite
fret- .106" X .036" (medium jumbo frets)
Double Expanding Truss Rod
mother of pearl dots
VINTAGE TINT on the neck
BadAss II Bridge.
And i'll let them do the wiring of the pots->pickups.

extra tonal capability also helps for tapping you can do any thing if you try

24-fret board on a Fender spec P-bass body

absolute was of $$$ IMO as you won't be able to reach those extra frets without a little left hand gymnastics. if it was a custom body, it'd be a different thing because you would design to compensate for the access to the added range.

there's a big difference between what can physically be done and what is worthwhile of being done

a Mahogany body sounds nice with a Dark Star ... but don't brush off the great sound of Alder or Ash as a good choice as well.

all the best,

R

And i'm also going to get Mahgoany with birdseye maple laminated to the top-- just like a Wal :P

Also, what about 2 dark star pickups? Is it worth the maybe 300$+?

I have only played one double DS loaded bass to date - one of Bud's basses. I really liked the versatility of the two pickups.

But ... there is so much tone potential with just a single DS that it's really a tough call. I'm a P-bass kinda guy, so the single pickup works well for my tastes, and is reflected in a lot of the work I do. If you're more of a J-bass kinda guy, then the dual DS may just be your thing.

all the best,
