Hey everyone, for as long as I have been playing it has been in the same band, which was very much a driving hard rock/metal band.

Well fast forward 11 years and I have decided that I need a change and want to just work on my playing in general and also my ability to branch off into other styles of playing. The problem is that after 11 years of nothing but rock that is where all of my chops lie. I want to go back and learn to think technically and modally, etc. Things that I have never done before.

Can someone recommend some good online sites that will give me a run down on different scales, modes, theories, etc and also any other information that would be helpful to a rocker that is now trying to branch out as a player.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

~Mike

The site you're on now called TalkBass is a really good source of all kinds of mode, scale, theory information for bass. Check out the four stickies at the top of "General Instruction" forum page to find good links to sites and some good scale practice excersises.

If you are feeling really brave scroll to the bottom of the page to the control what reads "Forum Jump" and scroll down to "Music Theory" over on the Double Bass page (also known as the dark side) for more theory info - mostly in the jass vein.

If you have any specific questions about theory or techniques try hitting the Search button on the tool bar at the top of this page. Lots of info at your fingertips!

Here's some other sites:

http://www.teoria.com/

Hope this helps! peace
