VIEW FULL LIVE VERSION : My Most Recent Build
Peter Parker 06-11-2007, 09:29 AM Here's a 6 I just completed. It features a light poplar body, pau ferro fingerboard, 34" scale, set-neck, zero fret, my own pickups, and toreador red finish. The paint isn't that good. I just don't have the tools or atmosphere to do color finishes that well. If I decide to do his more oftern I will either invest in spray equipment or just get someone else to paint. I'm leaning more toward having someone else do it as I hate finishing. This is probably the best sounding/playing bass I've built. I'm going to gig it this weekend to see how it holds up.
kris pung 06-11-2007, 09:32 AM It looks great to me, really dig the color too.
Thonk 06-11-2007, 10:01 AM Nice work i like the design it ever thought of closing the gap and making one as a single cut?
Peter Parker 06-11-2007, 10:14 AM Thanks for the comments. I've thought about a SC with the shape, even with the paint and pickguard. It could look good. We'll see. I'm getting ready to start a 5 string though it may have fancy woods instead of paint though I prefer the painted look.
wilser 06-11-2007, 10:18 AM nice job! looks beautiful.
2 requests:
a) can we see a pic of the neck joint on the back?
b) how wide is it? looks wider than usual, what kind of bag/case do you have for it?
Thanks.
Wilbyman 06-11-2007, 10:18 AM I didn't like the top horn at first but now I see that it is really a "Fender" top horn which the entire bass kind of flows into. Nice touch. The rest of the body shape is absolutely perfect. Good work, Nancy.
Oh yeah, besides the two extra strings.

Thanks, Wilser. Compliments from you mean a lot. The body is 14" wide at its widest. I use a TKL Dbl gigbag though it fits perfectly in my Fender Roscoe Beck case. When I get home from work I'll either post a pic of the joint or send one directly to you. The limitation on file size will determine that though Wilbyman has kindly offered to host a few pics for me.
Peter Parker 06-11-2007, 10:29 AM I was just looking at the pic and noticed that there is some carving on the top that isn't too apparent. I really like carve, could be my favorite part along with the neck heel, it really adds some nice flow to the design. I'll try to get better pics. I took these this morning right before I left for work.
emjazz 06-11-2007, 09:27 PM Wow Scott, looks great man! What's the string spacing at the bridge? How did the pickups turn out? Are they straight single coils? Man, with some dual coils, this one would be right up my alley. Could you do 26 frets? :D
ibanezcollector 06-11-2007, 09:32 PM I will also chime in and say that is sexy as hell its a perfect mix of modern meets vintage..
I love it. MORE PICS PLEASE.. I will host em for ya :)

Thanks! So far the pups turned out great. I've had a few of my friends play it and it's been very positive. I have practice tomorrow night and will know more. These are straight single coils. The string spacing is 18mm at the bridge. Actually the feel of the neck is pretty similar to a Roscoe that we've both owned;) I will be making more. This one was too fun. I've spoken with a guy that I believe will be able to give a quality finish for not a lot.
PilbaraBass 06-11-2007, 11:15 PM I really dig that design....not the same shape, at all, but gives me the same sort of "neo-deco" feel as the Pedulla Rapture....
Call me weird, but I'd love to see that thing in a lime-green 5-string.

Hey, Wilser. Here's a pic of the back. Not a good shot but the best I can do for now. I have terrible lighting. After looking at the pic, it got distorted somehow, probably the lighting. The heel isn't sharp like it appears but rounded. I'll get good ones Wednesday.
