Jack Casady, last night. Hot Tuna at a tiny venue here in Austin - the Cactus Cafe. I was first through the doors when they opened, and I sat - literally - at Jack's feet. I could have leaned forward and grabbed him on the leg.
Jack is my hero. That old man can still tear it up.

There are few feelings better than being that close to a hero, as my similar story illustrates as well (not a hijack, but rather a participation)...
Bela Fleck and the Flecktones played at an outdoor stage few years back in my hometown of Grand Rapids, MI. Some here may know they all go wireless. Halfway through one song, they just start walking through the audience, and Vic Wooten and Jeff Coffin stopped at my feet (like you said, I coulda grabbed their legs) and traded solos for a few minutes. Utterly breathtaking. Didn't think it could get any better, 'till a year later when I had a beer with them!
So cool that you got to see Casday - that cat can play!

I saw Hot tuna last fall in a smallish club and Jack was outstanding. the stage was maybe 30 feet away, so I couldn't reach out and touch him but it was a memorable evening for sure. his solo was fantastic and reminded me of some of his work on JA's After Bathing at Baxter's. also caught the Flecktones last summer which was another show for the ages. Bela was wearing a t-shirt that read 'slacker' so I shouted, "SLACKER!", and he looked up and smiled. I was sitting in the balcony about 150-200 feet away. that just about made my night. Vic was great as was the rest of the band. two really great shows.

Hey, sounds like a great show. I'll be seeing them next month.
Jorma did a live radio show in Austin the same day, yesterday, with Barry the mandolin player but without Jack, unfortunately. :crying:
