Thanks for posting.

You are welcome! I wasn't suprised by Matt " It's time to go back to the woodshed" Garrison. But Andrew.........WHOOOOOA! I wasn't ready for that! It is cool and humbling when you find out that the "box" that you've placed someone in is incinerated! OH WELL.....WOODSHED-HERE I COME!!!!!!!! ANDREW-YOU ARE SICK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gouche sound fabulous. Garrison.. hmmm... not so sure. He never sounds like he's playing bass to me. Huge talent... just don't like it personally. I'm sure he won't lose any sleep on my opinion of his playing:D

Yep, Gouche is a true master, and he can hang with ANYONE out there!

Ken, I'm with you on Garrison - great talent, but he might as well be playing a completely different instrument IMHO.

I was searching for some more Gouche clips when I stumbled upon this one by the master, Joel Smith. On a smokin MTD no doubt!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiQVNKNAHqk

I'd take that any day of the week.

I dug what Matt was doing but I wasn't so wild about Andrew. Still sounded good though, but Matt is just from another planet and blows me away!

That clip with Joel Smith is much more to my liking. NAMM show clips of jamming usually leave me cold. I suspect I am simply not a good enough musician to appreciate those guys chops, but I really like it when something sounds more like an actual composition instead of two basses jamming.

Two monster musicians at play. Gouche can lay it down. He sat in with my past church's band and great, then at end of service they went into a jam that was smokin'. I got to meet Gouche real nice guy.

I'm more of a groove player, so I appreciated with Andre was doing more...but no doubt they're BOTH talented players!

Amazing players the both of them.

+1000

I stood there and just watched and listened...
especially Andrew, wow. Matt is more of a "Lead bassist", I guess that is why his high strung Fodera and Andrew's low strung MTD can have there own place in the mix.

Here are some more pics of them doing it ;)

Man, I'm really diggin Gouche's MTD. Its neck thru and looks like an older Tobias.

i noticed that too, is like a old tobias, a neckthrough, Mtd is a too high priced bass, to be a bolt on,
I rather have a tobias neckthorugh then a mtd bolt on

I've heard Matt doing ensemble work and when he's not out front he does some very cool work IMO.

Yeah, I feel the same way about Wooten, in regards to how both players are predominantly known for their flashy pyrotechnics (which makes me yawn quite frankly), but to me it is when they're 'being bass players' and holding it down that I'm like :hyper: :bassist: .

Were they talking about what Andrew or Matt was doing at that timemark? Sounded like Matt was just taking over on his turn to solo to me.

Just looked the video again... it's Matt.

Well, I was playing with him and let me tell you, He KILLS playing bottom! His playing left me speechless, and I was honored and humbled to play with him. What you are hearing was an impromptu groove we started playing, I had just met him and it was like we'd been friends for years. He is a great person and an AWESOME player. Why all the comparisons all the time? There are MANY great players on this planet!!

It's okay... you guys can still have your own opinions.

My opinion? Nobody does a better Gouche than Andrew. Nobody does Matt Garrison better than Matt.

As it should be.

Though there are many who try to do just that! I prefer the original. Jam on.

True but for me this about the only better that really matters when it comes to musicians... be the best "you" you can or want to be... leave the rest to the guys with the scorecards.
;)

It's not possible to be a better Andrew Gouche than the original. Those seeking to be imitations are missing the point.
:D

Reminds me of an old Electro Voice ad that I saw in Bass Player featuring Stanley Clarke:

Definitely. Couldn't have said it better. Also, I tend to steal gigs from the imitations, even though they can 'shred' my face off. IME, there's always someone younger who can play circles around you if all your after is to become a technical wizard.

Why am I just now seeing this? I was THERE lol. Yeah they were laying it down! Andrew is pretty much one of my main influences and bass mentors. When I walked by and saw him there I was tripping!! I was looking at everyone else like, dont yall know who that is??? Crazy. But he jammed with quite a few other ppl, though I cant remember the names. Layed it down everytime. I have some footage as well, but my digital camera doesnt do the audio hardly any justice. He even let me play his BASS! Im now sold on MTD's lol. #1 Class act guy and a beast on the lows.

IMO, a musical idea can still be profound to you even if you don't understand the "theory" behind it or if you can't execute the idea.

No one is going to like everthing.

Matt's a great cat and I think everyone would agree that he's an awesome player and so are you. But no player is all things to all people and all situations.

I think it more of an expression of preferences and I don't thing there's any thing wrong with that and this is a discussion board with a myriad of opinions. I'm also sure you do comparisions yourself i.e. if two or more people show up to an audition an you are the MD you're going to compare them and pick the one that best suits your needs.
