Just stumbled across this on craigslist. I can tell if this guy is one of the worst or one of the best player I ever heard. :)

So in other words, your thread title should have been: "Rodrigo Castelán - Four Winds" ?

Yes. That probably would have been more appropriate. And just for the record, I didn't mean any disrespect here - actually wanted to give the guy some exposure for anyone who does like this sort of thing. I WAS seriously confused by his playing though. I don't aspire to be that kind of player, but kudos to the guys who put the hours and work in to be able to do that. I really hate the fact that we can't delete threads anymore. Makes me not want to post anything here. I often rethink my posts 5 minutes after I post them. :/

first off, Joe thanks fo your contribution...

Not sure if this cat's intonation is really that 'spot on' (:hmm: ), sense of rhythm is interesting and WOW thats a bunch of strangs for an EUB. Other than that, I think that I'm just as confused about this video clip as you are.

I am as confused by that statement as I am by that guy's bass playing.

Seriously though, that guy sounds incredible at times, then it sounds like he's just goofing around. Confusing indeed...

more notes...that piece was perfect except that it needed two more notes....an E-flat a 1:16 and a G at 1:18....

also, he missed 2 notes in his passage at 0:48....

other than that, it was PERFECT! :hyper:

:hmm:

Just sounds like a guy practicing a really difficult piece to me. He has headphones on and is concentrating like he is trying to keep up. There are times that he is actually on time, but ...

Wow, I'd like to hear any one of you post a video of a Dave Holland piece as interpreted by yourselves.

FYI: Here is the opening track of Dave's 1973 solo Debut "Conference Of The Birds" ... "Four Winds"

Didn't sound like an upright Bill Dickens to me. It sounded quite musical.

I'd love to be able to play that fast...

But i'd also like for all my notes to be clear and be easy to hear...
and have some kind of other track going with me
gah

kudos for the effort tho - alot better than I could do now

I liked the fact that in the "related" section a couple of Ray Brown videos popped up.

Rodrigo was cool too.
He played all the notes.
Ray only plays the good ones.
:D
